Real Madrid were not happy with Cesar Soto Grado's officiating in their 0-0 draw against Osasuna at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night, with Carlo Ancelotti expressing his frustration at the referee's decisions after the final whistle was blown.
Soto Grado was whistled at by Real Madrid fans after the fourth official signalled four minutes of added time, despite Sergio Herrera's alleged time wasting and the substitutions that were made in the second half.
Herrera had to be treated by Osasuna's medical staff twice after the break due to a discomfort and Real Madrid players believe that more stoppage time should have been added.
Just before the game at the Bernabeu went underway, the referee in Barcelona's match against Rayo Vallecano signalled eight minutes of stoppage time, with officials tending to give more added time this season in LaLiga Santander.
Real Madrid's complaints after the game
After the game, Ancelotti expressed his unease with Soto Grado's decision to signal just four minutes of stoppage time.
"[The added time] was little," said Ancelotti.
"I don't have the stopwatch, but the reality is that today's football needs effective time, there is no other way."
Thibaut Courtois also expected the referee to give more added time while Real Madrid were piling the pressure on Osasuna in pursuit of a potential winner.
"It is difficult to know who adds and what [they add]," Courtois told Movistar.
"I went to ground at the Camp Nou because of some discomfort and they gave seven [minutes].
"If you make four changes, plus the goalkeeper's [discomfort]... The problem is that there is no criterion and you do not know what they add and the reason."
Dani Carvajal agreed with Courtois' remarks and stressed that the Osasuna goalkeeper wasted a lot of time in the second half.
"Herrera has wasted four minutes," said Carvajal.
"[There were] two changes at the end in which the players started walking. They are giving six, seven and eight minutes in all the games and four seems very little."
Real Madrid's director of institutional relations, Emilio Butragueno, expressed his belief that there was a penalty that wasn't given on Vinicius Junior.
"Sometimes the VAR intervenes and other times it doesn't," declared Butragueno.
"The stamp [on Vinicius] exists and [the opponent] could have hurt him. Four minutes did not seem like the time that should have been added."

we played for 94' we couldn't score, was the goal going to come from the 3 minutes you are claiming? poor Decision by Anceloti is costing us this Season, Valverde is injured you can't rest Modric because you are playing Osasuna. if you rested Modric you should have used 4-4-2 with Kroos and Casemiro in the mid Rodrygo Vini in the wings, Jovic and Benzema upfront
