In their quest to replace Arnaud Kalimuendo, who has departed to join Nottingham Forest, Stade Rennais have now opened talks to sign Ajax’s Brian Brobbey (23), according to a report from L’Équipe.

The Netherlands international was prolific two seasons ago, netting 18 goals in 30 games in the league, however, he is coming off the back of a more difficult campaign with the Dutch giants. In 27 Eredivisie fixtures, he netted just four times.

He could now be on the move. Rennes are in the market for a centre-forward, following the sale of Kalimuendo. The Breton club have multiple targets. SCO Angers’ Esteban Lepaul is being considered, although Le Sco’s financial demands may deter Rennes from further pursuing a move. Sporting CP’s Conrad Harder is also being considered.

Brobbey is the latest target. As per L’Équipe, a bid worth just under €20m has been submitted to Ajax. However, this has been rejected by the Dutch club, who demand a higher fee.
