Several Italian newspapers are reporting that Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona attacker Lionel Messi will miss out on the Ballon d’Or podium.
Gazzetta dello Sport, Corriere dello Sport and La Stampa are among the publications which believe there will be no Ronaldo or Lionel Messi in the final three.
Il Corriere specifically refers to a video published by L’Equipe promoting the ceremony on December 3, which begins with images of Ronaldo’s victory last year.
However, the Portuguese is followed by Kylian Mbappe, Raphael Varane and Luka Modric, before there is a break in the footage.

Varane has lifted both the World Cup and Champions League this year, and the Frenchman would become the first defender to win the Ballon d’Or since Fabio Cannavaro in 2006.
Furthermore, the publication states the No 7’s absence is partly linked to his decision to leave Real Madrid for Juve.
The 33-year-old has won five Ballon d’Ors in his career and recently claimed he ‘deserved’ to add to his haul.

If FIFA don't present the ballon d'or to Cristiano or Messi ,then I think they should rather throw it. I really admire the way mbappe ,varane and modric played but they still are far behind Cristiano and Messi.

Both Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo deserve it and no one else. Previous Season. Leo Messi highest goals,assists,key passes, pre assists. He also got his 5th Pichichi and best player in La Liga of September. Currently he has highest number of goals in La Liga and Champions League. Breaking Ronaldinho's record last season, lifting Copa Del Rey and La Liga, the captain deserves it. Cristiano Ronaldo also deserves. He was hardworking and age was only a number. Second top goal scorer, scoring perfect hat tricks helped Real Madrid in top 4. Highest goals in UCL and lifts UCL too. Though he is in Italy and struggled his first few games, he is now almost in the top of goal scoring list etc.

I don’t see why people really want Ronaldo or Messi to win. Balon D’or is an award given for the best player of the last year. No the player with the most legendary status in football. Sure Ronaldo and Messi are the best but they were not the best last year because they are old now. There are many, many players that outperformed them, I don’t see a single reason why either of them should win the Balon D’or. Especially Messi, he only won two domestic cups, it’s not that impressive. Ronaldo meanwhile won the UCL but the World Cup is far bigger of an accolade. I love Messi and Ronnie but honestly it’s time to make way for a new generation 😉
