Reports of Nico Williams response to Barca denied – Catalan side have deadline

On Sunday evening, it was reported that Nico Williams had given the green light for a move to Barcelona. However that has been denied.

The 22-year-old winger supposedly accepted their offer, which has been on the table for several weeks, but MD say that Barcelona have still not received a response. In addition to their report, Gerard Romero tweeted out ‘calm’ shortly afterwards, which many have interpreted as a sign that the original report jumps the gun.

That is the same answer that agent Felix Tainta has been given Barcelona for several weeks – the Catalan daily explain that it is expected to be a significant week for Williams with regard to the Blaugrana. Regardless of how he decides, Barcelona want an answer before the 24th of August, when the pair face off in La Liga.

Athletic Club have remained confident they would be able to hold onto Williams ever since he returned to training early this week. Barcelona must only activate his €58m release clause, but there are doubts about their ability to register both him and Dani Olmo unless there are sales in the meantime.
