On 30 October local time, during an interview, Marco Reus discussed his thoughts and plans for life after retirement. He stated that the strongest opponents he had faced during his career were Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

On areas for improvement in MLS

"I believe there are numerous aspects that could be enhanced. I've only been in the States for just over a year, but to be honest, I still haven't fully grasped all the regulations. For instance, the system and various salary caps make it challenging for clubs to sign top-tier European players. I think the league could adjust its schedule or structure to allow greater flexibility. Nevertheless, I'm confident football's popularity here will continue to grow, especially with the World Cup being hosted in the US."

What do you hope fans here will remember you for in the future?

"I hope to genuinely help LA Galaxy grow. As one of MLS's biggest clubs, I want to elevate the team in many small details – recovery systems, nutrition, facility standards. When other teams visit, I want them to think 'Wow, this is Galaxy', sparking healthy competition. I aim to bring a more professional, advanced mindset."

Regarding youth development systems, how do you view the differences between the US and Germany?

"I haven't fully grasped the intricacies of American youth development yet, but it's a key area I intend to study closely. The younger generation represents the future – in five or ten years, they'll be the ones on the pitch. We must nurture them now, providing the same support we received in our youth."

Who do you consider the strongest player you've faced in your career? Whether teammates or opponents.

"Well, as opponents, undoubtedly Messi and Ronaldo. These two have dominated football for over a decade, with almost no one coming close."

Were they truly that much stronger than others at their peak?

"Absolutely. For me, they'll always occupy the very pinnacle, with all the other outstanding players ranking below them. It's hard for people to grasp just how difficult it is to maintain that level at the very top for ten, fifteen years straight. It demands immense mental fortitude. They have completely different personalities, but both are incredibly strong. I'd also like to mention one of my all-time favourite players – Andrés Iniesta. He was truly exceptional, technically flawless, and incredibly intelligent. He's one of the most gifted players I've ever seen. Then there's Dembélé, who recently won the Ballon d'Or. He simply defies the concept of a 'preferred foot' – ask him whether he's stronger with his left or right, and he couldn't tell you, because they're identical. Defending him one-on-one is virtually impossible. Ask any of our defenders; they'll all say he's almost unstoppable. He can cut inside left or right at will, making him completely unpredictable."
