There are few who would argue that Virgil van Dijk is not the best centre-back around right now. The Dutch man mountain took time to return to his peak after missing most of last term through injury, but his quality has increasingly shone throughout 2021-22, and he's back to his best just in time for the season's most-important period.
Van Dijk manages to balance a cool demeanour with putting fear into the eyes of opposing forwards, with an increasing number recently eschewing getting into a race with the Liverpool ace - notably Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez.

I have come to realise why rivals are finding it difficult to credit how brilliant Van Dijk has been. We signed him for 75m. They wanted him to fail & troll us with that forever. Instead, he has turned around our defence & won all these trophies. Rivals' agenda in the mud

That’s Brazilian arrogance at its best! He does not understand the history between LFC and EFC! Me as a LFC supporter wants Everton to remain in top flight, as it is great for soccer and the city. Richarlison on the other hand focus on the wrong things instead of surviving relegation. Nobody can tell us LFC supporters the worth of VVD, we know it and appreciate him. Last season with him out and our bad injury run, we still managed to display a better league standing than Everton. Respect to Thiago, Ramos and all others mentioned, we need them and many other great defenders to increase competition in Europe and EPL!
