Rivaldo: Mbappe isn't worth €280m, not even Messi or Ronaldo are worth that

Rivaldo has stated that paying 280 million euros for Kylian Mbappe would be an excessive amount on Real Madrid's part.

In the Brazilian's mind, no player is worth that sort of money.

"In my opinion, paying 280 million euros for a player is too much," he told Betfair.

"Not even [Lionel] Messi, [Cristiano] Ronaldo or Neymar are worth that price."

Another name that has been linked to Real Madrid is Eden Hazard and the former Barcelona star said that he would be a great signing.

"Hazard would be a perfect signing for Real Madrid, not only for his talents as a player but also as a leader," Rivaldo said.

Speaking about the signing of Lucas Hernandez for Bayern Munich for 80m euros, Rivaldo again expressed shock at the way the transfer market has changed.

"Clubs are paying more than an actual player's worth and to pay 80m euros for Lucas Hernandez is just another example of that," he explained.

"Sometimes it brings extra responsibility to those players.

"Some of them almost can't believe they're worth so much money and their performances could disappoint according to what was expected or to their previous exhibitions on other clubs."

Rivaldo also spoke about Lionel Messi's return to the Argentina team and thinks it can only be a good thing.

"I think he took the right decision of showing up and playing along his teammates and manager," he said.

Barcelona take on Espanyol on Saturday in the Catalan derby and Rivaldo, who knows what it means to play in this fixture, looked ahead to the game.

"This match always has its importance in the region," he said.

"None of the clubs want to lose in any circumstance and you always want to play in these kinds of clashes."
