Robben: We've tried everything but it doesn't work, we don't know what I have

Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben has admitted that he does not what is preventing him from recovering physically, having not played since 27 November 2018, and the 35-year-old is beginning to question the future of his career.

Robben announced that he was going to leave the German giants at the end of the campaign and the assumption was that he would join another team for a couple of seasons, yet this mysterious injury has meant that he has been unable to feature thus far in 2019.

"It's very, very frustrating," the Dutchman said to Bild.

"We've tried everything, but for now it doesn't work.

"Unfortunately, that is the problem: we don't know what it is.

"It's really difficult.

"Twice I've almost returned to the team, and again there was a relapse."

Robben's last game on 27 November saw him shine as he bagged a brace in a 5-1 victory against Benfica in the Champions League and, having got over many of his injury issues from earlier in his career, they seem to have returned.

During his spell at Real Madrid, for instance, he was nicknamed "the glass footballer," but that has not been the case at Bayern as he has become a hero for the Bavarians, most notably scoring in the 2-1 Champions League final victory against Borussia Dortmund in 2013.

Robben has repeatedly hinted that he plans to continue his playing career at another club next season, but this niggling injury may cause him to rethink that idea.
