MESSI DOESN'T DESERVE THE BALLON D'OR! I have seen a lot of people make this statement and when you ask them why, their answer is always revolving around the question "What did Messi do last season?" Some say that outside the World Cup, Messi didn't do anything. And that leaves me shocked. Well, I decided to answer that question. What exactly did Messi do last season that earned him all these shout-out to win the Ballon d'Or. From my research which you can confirm if you check, these were my findings. 1. Messi began the 2022/2023 Season with a Trophy - the Trophee des Champions (The Champions Trophy). He scored the opening goal in the 4-0 win against Nantes. (Technically, it was played on July 31st, 2022 but is included in the new season by the Ballon d'Or, all Cup matches played at the start of the season were included in the consideration whether or not they fall into the August 1st date which is set to be the date for the beginning of the season by Ballon d'Or) 2. He won the Ligue 1 with the highest number of assists (16) No other person in Europe top 5 leagues had more assists than him in their respective leagues (Both Griezmann and De Bruyne had 16 too) 3. He was involved in 67 goals - 41 goals and 26 assists in 56 games last season excluding club friendly games; 21 goals and 20 assists for PSG in all games, 17 goals and 5 assists for Argentina and 3 goals and 1 assists for Inter Miami before the deadline date for the Ballon d'Or season ends (August 1st, 2022 to July 31, 2023) 4. He was the highest rated player according to Sofascore in 20 matches out of 48 matches (excluding the international friendlies and his Inter Miami matches; of which he was the highest rated in 6 of those 8 matches excluded) To put it into perspective - He was the highest rated player in 26 matches out of all 56 games he played last season. Mbappe and Halaand were the highest rated players in 12 out of all 54 games and 11 out of 57 games played in respectively. Messi was the highest rated player in more matches than both of them combined. 5. According to Sofascore, he was the highest rated player in all top 5 leagues last season based on performance in the league. He topped the Ligue 1 ratings at 8.11 with Reny Cabella coming in second at 7.56. Man City Midfielder De Bruyne, EPL's highest rated last season was at 7.78. Atletico Madrid 's Griezmann was La Liga's highest rated at 7.74, Bayern Munich's Kimmich at 7.73 was Bundesliga's highest and Calhanoglu of Inter Milan was Serie A's highest at 7.31. 6. He had 32G/A (16 goals and 16 assists) in Ligue 1 last season only bested by Mbappe's 34G/A (29 goals and 5 assists) 7. He created the most Big chances in Ligue 1 (29) last season, only behind Bruno Fernandes (32) and Kevin De Bruyne (31) in Europe top 5 leagues. 8. Then his world cup performance; He was the highest rated player at the World Cup according to Sofascore at 8.27. Griezmann was second at 7.70. He had 10G/A in the World Cup scoring 7 World Cup goals and assisting 3. Yeah, we know 4 of his goals were penalties but they are goals, so rest with that agenda. No one had better goal involvements than him with Mbappe also having 10G/A - 8 goals and 2 assists. He also created the most big chances in the World Cup too (7) Inevitably, he won the World Cup. 9. Moving over to individual awards, he won the World Cup Golden Ball making him the MVP (Most Valuable Player of the tournament) after winning Man of the Match awards in a record 5 matches in a single World Cup tournament - against Mexico, Australia, Netherlands, Croatia and France. In 2023, he won the FIFA Best Men's player of the Year (2022) and was included in the FIFPro Men's World 11. He also won the Laureus World Sports Award for a Sportsman for the year 2023. You'll notice I'm not even adding all the "highest goal involvements in World Cup history, scored in every category, highest man of the match in world cup history, etc" kinda stats. I feel those ones are just used to sound ceremonially flamboyant. I am presenting his hard irrefutable football facts. Now, this post was originally made not to make a comparison between Messi and Halaand but to answer the question "What did Messi do last season?". The only time I mentioned Halaand was to put a stat to perspective but SOME PEOPLE WILL STILL TALK so; if you want to compare, go and make your own findings and come. No need to argue. This Man won 3 trophies last season - The Trophee des Champions, The Ligue 1 and the World Cup. He was involved in 67 goals last season scoring 41 and he was the best player in terms of performance and match contribution in Europe top 5 leagues. In my book, that's more than enough to win you the Ballon d'Or. It's just quite unfortunate that Halaand did this well when Messi decided to end his stay in Europe with a bang. Both deserve the Ballon d'Or but Messi deserves it more.👑 Hater's 🤠 come 🫴 and read small 🤝👉🐐⭐🌹🤴⭐🎯⚽🥅🫅💯
