Messi played his farewell match for the Argentina national team. Former Barcelona legend and Brazilian icon Ronaldinho extended his best wishes to Messi on social media, stating: "How happy and privileged it is to have been part of your life story from day one, brother."

Ronaldinho wrote: "How happy and privileged it is to have been part of your life story from day one, brother!

You brought us so much joy and allowed us to fully enjoy the beauty of football! Your name is etched in the history of your country and the entire world...

Only we truly know how happy we were when childhood dreams finally came true – representing your country and ultimately becoming world champions!

You gave your all for the national team and your homeland... I completely understand how you feel and know that when family becomes a priority, we all re-evaluate certain aspects of our lives.

Enjoy life, brother. I wish you all the best, today and always."
