Cristiano Ronaldo has been the subject of transfer speculation this summer as his Al Nassr contract expires in June, but he spoke out about his next move after winning the Nations League
Cristiano Ronaldo says he'll remain at Al Nassr for the immediate future as the 40-year-old clarified where he'll be playing his football next season.
Portugal captain Ronaldo had been linked with a move away after scoring 99 goals in 111 appearances for the Saudi Pro League club, with FIFA president Gianni Infantino suggesting the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star had been offered a switch to a side competing in the Club World Cup this summer.
The forward was quick to play down those rumours, and after winning the UEFA Nations League with Portugal he said he'll be staying at his current club.
Ronaldo will be out of contract at the end of June, but when pressed on his plans said: "Future? It won't change anything." He was then asked whether this meant he would be staying at Al Nassr, to which he replied: "Yes."
Ronaldo was substituted in the 88th minute of the Nations League final against Spain in Munich, where he scored Portugal's second equaliser to help send the game to penalties after a 2-2 draw.
He then watched on as his former Real Madrid and Juventus team-mate Alvaro Morata missed the crucial kick, with Ruben Neves sealing Portugal's win from the spot.
“It’s always special to lift trophies. Regardless of the fact that we’ve already won this competition, for me it’s like it’s the first," said Ronaldo, who now has two Nations League winners' medals to go along with European Championship success in 2016..
"You know how passionate I am about being here, about playing for the national team, about wearing my colours. The suffering, the tears. It’s special.
"For our nation, for the Portuguese people here in the stadium, those who are in Portugal cheering for us... My children are Spanish, so they shout ‘Spain’ to make me angry. So it’s special and I’m very happy.
"Winning for Portugal is always special. I've won a lot of things, but there's nothing like winning for the national team. That's why I really wanted it. I even said at lunch that this generation deserved it and that we were going to win the final.
"We knew it was going to be difficult, against a team like Spain , and I think we deserved it.
"This gives us confidence to go to the World Cup and see that it's possible to beat any team in the world."

From the moment that fresh-faced teenager stepped onto the field in 2003, a new dawn broke over Portuguese football—a quiet revolution about to roar into life under his leadership. Before Cristiano Ronaldo claimed the captain’s armband in 2008, Portugal had been graceful also-rans on the world stage: a third-place finish at England ’66, semi-final runs in 1984 and 2000, and a heartbreaking runners-up spot in Euro 2004 on home soil—tremendous feats, yet still trophyless for over half a century . With Ronaldo, everything changed: he inspired Portugal to their first major title at Euro 2016 in Paris , led them to inaugural UEFA Nations League glory in Porto 2019 , and, at 40, struck the equaliser in Munich to secure a second Nations League crown in 2025 . In every thunderous step, thunderbolt strike, and unyielding roar of defiance, he has transformed Portugal from hopefuls to holders of history.
