After scoring a goal in the World Cup Round of 16 to help Portugal defeat Croatia 2-1 and advance to the Round of 16, Ronaldo gave an interview to Fox Sports.

Cristiano, congratulations on advancing to the Round of 16. Today is also Diogo Jota's death anniversary, making it a truly special day. A great number 21 (at this point, Ronaldo turned to the camera to show the number on the back of his jersey), Diogo Jota's number. How special a day is this for Portugal?

It's unbelievable. We knew it before the game, and it's such a special moment. We talked about it within the team today; the coincidences in life are truly incredible. I am truly amazed because of the circumstances today; it means so much to us, not just because we won this game, but also because of the way we won.

It was a very tough match, and we know that Croatia is a fantastic team. We dominated the first half, but in the second half, after they scored, we panicked a bit, but that's football. However, after my goal was disallowed for offside, everyone started to regain their belief, and we asked the fans for help and support. And after the penalty, I think the situation on the field improved a bit for us, and we created several chances. So, I think, ultimately, we deserved to win this match.

So what's it like to face Luka Modric as an opponent? Obviously, he might be playing in his last World Cup...

I've played with Luka for many years, and we are almost the same age. I think he is undoubtedly a legend in football, and he remains a legend in football because he is still playing and playing very, very well. The extremely high level he demonstrates is incredible. And, I told him many times: "Luka, congratulations on everything you have, it's great to see you again, and I wish you all the best in the rest of your career." Also, it's great to compete against him again as an opponent on the field.

Next up is Spain in the Round of 16. Are you full of confidence?

After this victory, we are always full of confidence. We know the next game will be very tough, but this is the World Cup, and we must be prepared, and we are prepared for it.
