Roy Keane names the manager he would love to see succeed Amorim at Man United

Roy Keane has named his dream replacement for Ruben Amorim if Manchester United give him the boot.

Amorim is under increasing pressure at Old Trafford after winning just 29 per cent of his Premier League games in his first 11 months.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has indicated that he could give Amorim three years to turn around the tank but words do not always translate to reality.

Daily Mail Sport's Chris Wheeler has pointed out how Erik ten Hag was given the dreaded vote of confidence last year before being given the boot 10 games later.

That means United could be thinking about their next boss sooner than Ratcliffe would care to admit - and Keane is certain of the man he wants.

'I've said it for years, I'd like Atletico Madrid's (Diego) Simeone to go in there. I'd like to see him go there. I know his mate has gone to Arsenal [Andrea Berta],' he told the Stick to Football podcast.

'I think he would just create havoc, but good havoc. He'd rock up to that place. No guarantees, but I'd just like to see his personality, his track record.

'People might think styles fo football, they scored five against Real Madrid last weekend. He doesn't like his teams giving up too many goals or chances, but they can play a bit and fight.

'At Liverpool a few weeks ago, the team aren't as great as few years ago, but they still had fighting spirit. He's on the sideline, he got sent off that night, I'd like a big personality.'

However, he is not pushing for Amorim to be handed his P45 just yet.

'I'd still say give the man a chance, absolutely. Another week,' he joked.

Two wins in three games against Chelsea and Sunderland have lifted United into the Premier League top half, but that is the bare minimum. The Red Devils still only scored a 'D' on Daily Mail Sport's Premier League report cards.

Simeone admitted back in 2016 that the Premier League and Serie A were 'very attractive' prospects but he has stuck by Atletico.

He has now been at the helm there for 14 years and is the second-longest-serving manager in Europe's top five leagues, beaten only by Heidenheim's Frank Schmidt.

Back in 2022, Neville urged United to pay 'big money' to lure Simeone away from the Spanish capital just days after they dumped the Red Devils out of the Champions League.

His name is often brought up in relation to various elite jobs around the continent.

But he shows no sign of leaving Atletico, where his contract runs until 2027, and where he also had two spells as a player. He is clearly a loyal character: even in the sweltering Spanish heat, he will still stick to a black shirt, suit, and tie.

Keane is right about one thing: the Argentinian certainly would bring chaos.

In September, he was sent off in Atletico's dramatic 3-2 loss at Liverpool after clashing with a fan in the stands.

Liverpool fan Jonny Poulter later identified himself as the man who caused the Argentinian's meltdown after Virgil van Dijk scored a late winner.

Poulter, 30, was sitting behind the dugout and video footage showed Simeone confronting him.

The seething Simeone claimed that he was 'insulted all night' by rival supporters, while referring to racism in his post-match press conference.

UEFA handed him a one-match ban from the touchline for one match for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
