Former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had the idea of inviting Roy Keane to the Red Devils' Carrington training base when he was at the helm back in 2019.
The idea was for the seven-time Premier League winner to address the squad in private and pass on some of his wisdom to the players who were, at the time, struggling to even compete for a Champions League spot.
Keane was Solksjaer's former teammate at Old Trafford and captained Man United during the club's heyday under Sir Alex Ferguson, and the Norwegian was confident that the Irishman could instil confidence in his side and inspire them to greatness.
But the meeting backfired on Solskjaer and summed up just how bad things were at the time, with Keane being left less than impressed with one unnamed individual at United.
The player in question is said to have looked disinterested as Keane spoke to the team and while it is unclear whether the Sky Sports pundit called out the individual, he made it known he was unhappy.
A training ground source told Mirror Sport at the time: "As you'd imagine Roy has strong views on what it takes to be a proper United player and he gave it them straight. He wasn't impressed with one player who didn't seem to be all that interested and looked as if he'd rather be somewhere else."
Two months later - and three years before he left the club - former Man United midfielder Fred seemed to back up the fact that there was a vanity problem at Old Trafford.
The Brazilian told De Sola in early 2020: "We are lacking a lot right now. We need to improve as a group, our group lacks the 'sticking together mentality', and we have lots of problems.
"There are a lot of discussions, every group has this sort of problem, but ours has this. Vanity is also an issue and we need to stop this and just run on the pitch. We need to stick a goal inside our minds, focus on it and go forward.
"We need to be on the same page and today some players have different objectives, there are players that just want to solve problems alone and this is wrong."
Four years on and two managers later, Erik ten Hag is in charge at Man United and from the outside it's clear to see he's done his best to tackle this issue.
Some huge names have left the football club under his stewardship, with the Dutchman replacing Solskjaer's United for a new-look side in his image.
Cristiano Ronaldo was among those who clashed with his new boss and was promptly shown that no one is bigger than the club or Ten Hag's project.
Other big personalities including Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani also made way, but that isn't to say that Ten Hag has completely eradicated the problem.
Ten Hag has been embroiled in a public spat with Jadon Sancho for some time now while Raphael Varane was suddenly dropped from the first team.
For Wednesday night's clash with Chelsea, Ten Hag dropped both Antony Martial and Marcus Rashford, with the gamble paying off as the Red Devils ran out 2-1 winners.
The ongoing issues show there is still work to be done and that the problems faced by Solskjaer are still relevant three years later at United.

Probably for now, MU will be the last place any good manager will opt for as the players are all so toxic filled with evil idea of players power over management and does not give 100% to the play for the manager!
