Ruben Amorim is urging Manchester United to build a brand-new scouting team in Portugal.
The new United boss believes the club's network in his homeland has dropped off since it brought Cristiano Ronaldo to the club 21 years ago - and wants a reboot.
Ronaldo was signed from Sporting as a teenager in 2003 and under Sir Alex Ferguson, he became a goal-scoring legend at Old Trafford before moving on to Real Madrid. Nani, another Portuguese and Sporting winger, also had a successful stint in Manchester. But Amorim has concerns that the top young talent in his home country has been missed by United in recent years.
Only Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot, who were signed in 2020 and 2018 respectively, have made a significant impact at United in recent years and young stars from Portugal have increasingly gone elsewhere in recent years.
Players like Bernardo Silva and Ruben Dias ended up at rivals Manchester City, whether via stepping stone clubs like Monaco or direct, others from the region have slipped through United's net, with Chelsea's Pedro Neto cited as a prime example.
Wolves initially signed the Portuguese winger as a teenager after he had moved to Italy with Lazio, before selling him to Chelsea for £54million. Neto had been tracked by United BEFORE his move to Italy.
Another is Joao Neves, who PSG signed last summer to replace Manuel Ugarte when he chose to move to United.
Now, former Sporting coach Amorim is determined to ensure United are ready to seize the opportunity as a new wave of potential stars emerges in his homeland. Sporting wing-back Geovany Quenda, despite being only 17, was given his head by Amorim, is already a full international and carries a hefty price tag of £25million. Similarly, Benfica centre-back Antonio Silva, at just 20 years old, is valued at almost £50m and is seen in some quarters as a younger version of Dias.

Sincerely, the problem with Man U isn't the coach. I'm an Arsenal fan through and through but I feel ManU should NOT be where they are at the moment. A "WHOLE" Man U beaten at home by Bournemouth???? I think the problem lies with the players, they aren't just committed anymore. Bring the best of coaches, these players will mess up the coach. Next summer Man U should buy five hungry players who are ready to put their lives down for Man U. Just seven players should be retained from the present first team players. The rest should go!
Well said

There is improvement in MU players, for example, concerning ball possession. But, though am not an expert on football, I suggest to Mr. Amorim and especially to MU players: there is an urgent need to cultivate and embrace a new MENTALITY. This new MENTALITY includes the capacity to think QUICKLY in order to 1) run very fast with the ball 2) to make quick passes 3) to frequently cross or shoot the ball to the opposite box and 4) to have the main objective of frequently taking the ball to the opposite box; doing so creates many opportunities for goals—shots on target, penalties, auto-goals, corners, etc. And the MU players 5) should avoid playing the ball backwards too much. Also, when conceding the first goal, the players need 6) to keep CALM and not become anxious as if it were the last second of the match, but to act SWIFTLY in order to equalize. This is the MENTALITY the MU players urgently need if they want the team to go far! (Advice from a friend in Angola. 😊)

Sack Ten Hag - 13th Sack Van Nistelrooy - 13th Employ Amorim - 13th Defeat Man City - 13th Punish Rashford - 13th Frustrate Garnacho - 13th This Chelsea draw would have pained me more if Man United had won today, I’ll feel even better if Liverpool lose to Tottenham.

Let face the truth, no more Ronaldo and Messi likes in anywhere in the world. coaches should focus on building teams and not individuals like Ronaldo or Messi.
