Ruben Amorim's Man Utd boardroom win says a lot as Marcus Rashford 'surprises' club

Ruben Amorim's successful cold-shouldering of the now-departed Marcus Rashford at Manchester United indicates the Red Devils board's faith in him.

Despite his name appearing on the scoresheet for the newly-installed Portuguese coach's first two Premier League games in charge, Rashford's relationship with Amorim slowly disintegrated into a scrimmage.

The Englishman's manager wasn't pleased with his performances on the training ground, and Rashford was exiled from first-team contention. With his future bleak, the forward left Old Trafford - a place he has called home since the age of seven - to join Aston Villa earlier this month.

According to reports, United's board showed unwavering faith in Amorim regarding the Rashford ordeal, showing just how invested his current employers are in the 40-year-old boss.

The Independent reports that one major club were surprised at Rashford's move to Villa Park. The paper also reports that Amorim had the 'full backing' of United's hierarchy to offload the forward.

Amorim appeared to back up these claims when asked about the decision to let Rashford depart earlier this week. The head coach confessed that Rashford's initial loan move, as well as similar departing deals for out-of-sorts left-back Tyrell Malacia and winger Antony, were entirely his decision.

"The important thing is that I'm here saying that was my decision, like Ty [Malacia] and Antony, was my decision to do these loans and to keep some players even without any transfers," Amorim stated on Thursday.

The manager also came clean about the specific reason why Rashford was deemed surplus to requirements, with the pair never being able to see eye-to-eye despite such promising beginnings.

"I couldn't get Marcus to see the way you're supposed to play football and to train the way I see it," Amorim added. "It's something that you feel as a coach and as a player. It's quite normal. It happened with a lot of coaches.

"Sometimes you have one player that is really good with one coach, and the same player with another coach is different. I wish the best to Rashford and to [Villa manager] Unai Emery, and they can connect because he's a very good player."
