The 30-man shortlist for the 2026 Ballon d'Or has been announced, and the inclusion of 29-year-old Mexican forward Quiñones, last season's Saudi Pro League Golden Boot winner, has come as quite a surprise.
Last season, Quiñones, playing for Al-Hilal, made 35 appearances, contributing 37 goals and 4 assists. In the Saudi Pro League, he scored 33 goals to win the Golden Boot, outpacing Ivan Toney's 32 goals, though Al-Hilal did not win any honors last season.
For the Mexican national team, Quiñones scored in the first match of the North American World Cup and performed outstandingly across 5 World Cup matches, contributing 4 goals and 1 assist, helping Mexico reach the Round of 16.
