Scholes names MU's worst signing: 'unprofessional' and couldn't even kick a ball

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has named the club's worst ever signing as he criticised a former team-mate's professionalism.

Scholes career at Old Trafford spanned two decades with the midfielder forming a key part of Sir Alex Ferguson's trophy winning teams.

He won 11 Premier League titles, three FA Cups and won the Champions League on two occasions.

Scholes discussed Man United's worst signings during his time at the club on an episode of the Overlap.

The midfielder offered a defence of Argentina midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron, who joined Man United in a then English record £28million move in 2001, but failed to live up to expectations during two seasons at the club.

Scholes instead highlighted goalkeeper Mark Bosnich as one of Man United's worst signings, criticising his professionalism and ability to strike a ball.

'Veron was a great player, a talented player. Don't really know why it didn't work for him but what a footballer,' Scholes said.

'I go back to the goalkeepers, when you had to try and replace Peter Schmeichel, which is always going to be difficult. We had a few. I was thinking [Massimo] Taibi, Mark Bosnich.

'I thought he was a good keeper at [Aston] Villa, Mark. He came to us, he was so unprofessional. Honestly, it was ridiculous. In shooting practice, you normally have like 15, 20 shots. After three shots, he's knackered, "Oh no, get someone else in".

'I never realised, he couldn't kick a football. I've never seen anything like it. We played Everton away in first game of the season, and none of us picked up on it, he couldn't reach the halfway line.

'There was no wind, it was a perfect day. But when you look at his feet, size 14s, honestly he was just kicking the floor all the time, big flippers. Honestly, it was disappointing.'

Bosnich had initially been signed by Man United in 1990, before returning to Australia and later returning to the Premier League in 1992 by joining Aston Villa.

The Australian spent seven years at Aston Villa as their first choice goalkeeper, with his performances leading to him rejoining Man United in 1999.

Bosnich had been Man United's main goalkeeper during a title winning campaign in 1999 and 2000, but he was replaced by Fabien Barthez the following season.
