If anything was clear following the humiliating defeat to Bayern Munich it was that the Barcelona squad needed to be refreshed, and the first step of that has now come as Nelson Semedo becomes the first casualty.
More than a month after the debacle, Semedo has left for Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers for a fee of around 35 million euros, which will allow the club to make some of the signings they had been planning.
The club remain convinced of the need to renew the squad, but so far only Semedo and Ivan Rakitic have departed, however the fee received for Semedo will mean that some of Ronald Koeman's targets can arrive.
One of those will be Ajax right-back Sergino Dest, who is also wanted by Bayern but has been specifically requested by Koeman.
Barcelona could also use the funds from Semedo's sale to bring in Manchester City centre-back Eric Garcia.
Both players are valued at around 15 million euros by their current clubs and Koeman is keen to reinforce the squad, particularly at the back.
Vidal in Milan
Other players are on their way out, including Arturo Vidal, which will allow the club to reduce the wage bill, even if there is no transfer fee involved.
The Chilean agreed to end his contract with Barcelona a year early before travelling to Milan to sign for Inter in a deal which will soon be completed.
Luis Suarez has also been linked with Juventus, although that deal may not take place until January, and his future remains unclear, despite Koeman's clear message that he isn't in his plans this season.
Barcelona are keen for Suarez to leave to try to bring in Lautaro Martinez, despite Inter's insistence that he is not for sale for anything less than 90 million euros.
Meanwhile, the option of Memphis Depay, put forward by Koeman, has not been ruled out.
Riqui, Pedri and Alena
Collateral damage will also become clear in the weeks ahead as youngsters leave on loan, with Pedri set for a loan to a European team, Bayern are among those interested.
Riqui Puig and Carles Alena are also considering their options as Koeman has told them that their game time will be limited.
Jean-Clair Todibo and Moussa Wague will be another two players to depart, with Wague linked to Greek side PAOK.

Who do you have as a Replacement? This Club's management is something else. Semedo was one of Barcelona best players during the return from the Lock-down. I Believe Sergio Roberto is still there because his Spanish. If Sergio Roberto is Black and not from Spain, he would have been long sold, maybe even for free.
