Serbia prime minister Ana Brnabic has heavily criticised Luka Jovic for ignoring the county's quarantine.
The Real Madrid striker has returned to his native Serbia with the LaLiga Santander season suspended due to coronavirus, but he caused a stir when he was seen on the street of Belgrade celebrating his girlfriend's birthday.
"Unfortunately, we have negative examples being set by our football stars," Brnabic said.
"They earn millions and ignore mandatory self-isolation orders upon returning home."
The country's president, Aleksandar Vucic, came down even harder on Jovic.
"If he leaves his apartment he'll be arrested," Vucic added.
"I think he regrets what he's done, but I'll make it clear to him that the lives of our people are more important than his millions."
Jovic spoke himself, but he avoided a true apology.
"I am very sorry that some people haven't done their job in giving me the right instructions on how to act during isolation," he said.
