Sheringham: Garnacho's immensely talented, not sure if he can succeed at Chelsea

Teddy Sheringham believes Alejandro Garnacho was wrong to close the door on his time at Manchester United and move to Chelsea in the summer.

Garnacho broke into United’s first team in 2022 under Erik ten Hag and went on to become a key player for the Red Devils.

However, the Argentine winger saw his United journey end on a sour note after a falling out with Ruben Amorim saw him deemed surplus to requirments at Old Trafford.

And Premier League rivals Chelsea then swooped to complete a cut-price deal to sign Garnacho for £40million.

The 21-year-old is yet to get off the mark in a Blue shirt but has shown glimpses of his potential, particularly against Jose Mourinho’s Benfica in the Champions League.

But despite that, Sherringham is uncertain whether Garnacho will make a success of his move to Stamford Bridge, and said he would have advised the winger to try and revive his fortunes at United rather than seek a move away.

‘I think Alejandro Garnacho is a very talented player, but only time will tell whether he’s able to be a success at Chelsea,’ the former United and England striker told Coin Poker.

‘He will have been disappointed not to get off the bench in the game at Old Trafford. He made a big move in leaving Manchester United for Chelsea, and it’s not one I would have advised him to make if I were a part of his team.

‘When you’re at United you have to try your utmost to make it work.

‘It is the biggest club in the world, so you won’t be leaving for a better club, and the opportunity to come back won’t be there, especially with the manner in which he left and the way the fans have reacted to it.’
