Sir Alex Ferguson appeared to try and slip under the radar as he was driven into Carrington for Manchester United's final training session before their crunch Premier League clash with Tottenham.

Ferguson has been invited to United's training sessions on two occasions now since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho at the helm last month.

The former United boss is believed to have had a say in the decision to appoint Solskjaer as caretaker boss on loan from Molde until the end of the season alongside his old No 2 Mike Phelan.

Solskjaer acknowledged Ferguson's influence over his career as a player and manager after being handed the role at United and has sought advice from the Scotsman in several conversations the pair have shared in recent weeks.

Reports also claimed that Ferguson inspired the United players by delivering a stirring speech to the dressing room over the Christmas period.

United stars Marcus Rashford, Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial were also seen pulling into Carrington training ground on Saturday morning as Solskjaer ran his players through their final preparations.

The United squad are expected to will board a train to Watford later on in the afternoon after their training session before getting a coach to Wembley Hilton with the squad due to arrive at the team hotel around 6pm this evening.

Jesse Lingard will travel with the team and wants to put on a show at Tottenham as United look to maintain their 100 per cent winning record under interim boss Solskjaer.

He said: 'It's going to be tough but, with the run we've been on at the moment and the form we've had, we back ourselves 100 per cent,' Lingard said.

'So, we go there with the full intention of winning and getting the three points. We're on a great run at the moment, so to carry it on against Tottenham and to get the win would be perfect.'
