Sir Alex Ferguson reveals Manchester United’s biggest mistake against Everton

Sir Alex Ferguson appeared to slam Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's decision to start Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench for Manchester United's draw with Everton in a chat with UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Manchester United labour to draw against Everton

Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjear continued to struggle as they dropped yet more points at home, this time drawing 1-1 to a weakened Everton side.

Anthony Martial, handed a rare start for the Red Devils, gave his side the lead in the dying embers of a first half that offered little for either side.

However, a break from a Manchester United corner in the second half saw Abdoulaye Doucoure feed Andros Townsend, who rifled in a deserved equaliser for the Toffees.

To compound the misery of those watching of a red persuasion, the Englishman then pulled out the classic Cristiano Ronaldo “Siu” celebration in front of the Everton travelling faithful.

Sir Alex reveals one thing Manchester United got wrong against Everton

Speaking to MMA legend Khabib after the 1-1 draw with Everton, for which both were in attendance, Sir Alex laid bare the one mistake he felt Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaermade against the Toffees.

The Scot, who is Manchester United’s greatest manager of all time, did not hold back on his opinion, despite Solskjaer having been a previous favourite in his playing days.

Speaking to Khabib, he is filmed saying:

“I also think they [Everton] saw Ronaldo wasn’t playing” before Khabib interjected, “he came on in the second half”.

Not to be dissuaded, Sir Alex replied:

“I know, but you should always start with your best players”

Clearly then, Sir Alex felt as though choosing not to start with Ronaldo (or Paul Pogba or Jadon Sancho) sent out the wrong message to their opponents, who may have been more up for the game as they saw a weaker side line out against them.

Do you agree, or was Solskjaer right to rest the Portuguese?
