Sky Sports supercomputer predicts 2026/27 PL: Arsenal retain title & Liverpool jump back above MU

Will Arsenal retain the title? What's in store for Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea under their new managers? And which teams are going to be relegated?

As the new Premier League season draws closer, featuring 215 games to be shown live on Sky Sports, we've fired up the Sky Sports supercomputer to predict the final table.

Arsenal top, Man Utd fourth

Our predicted table, which is based on 10,000 simulations and factors historic performance, transfer business and betting odds, has Arsenal as champions for a second year running.

The Gunners, champions for the first time in 22 years, are tipped to become only the fourth side in Premier League history to retain the crown after Manchester United, Manchester City, and Chelsea.

Their expected points total of 85.2 is almost identical to their title-winning 85-point haul last season and puts them nearly four points clear of Manchester City, who are predicted to be runners-up again as they begin a new era following Pep Guardiola's departure.

City, who have signed Elliot Anderson for a club-record £116m fee, are predicted to finish closer to Arsenal than last season, when they lagged seven points behind. The supercomputer also expects improvement from Liverpool, where Andoni Iraola has taken over following a fifth-placed finish under Arne Slot.

The Reds are predicted to climb two places to third, with an expected points total of 76.8, putting them just ahead of Manchester United, who are predicted to drop a place to fourth despite finishing last season strongly under Michael Carrick.

Chelsea, whose list of summer signings includes the £117m they paid for Morgan Rogers, as well as a new manager in Xabi Alonso, are predicted to climb five places to fifth, ahead of sixth-placed Spurs, who are tipped to climb 11 places following a summer of transfer spending.

Aston Villa are predicted to drop out of the Champions League places and finish seventh, with Bournemouth, Brighton and Brentford completing the predicted top half.

Promoted trio doomed? Forest at risk?

At the other end of the table, the Sky Sports supercomputer predicts newly-promoted sides Coventry, Ipswich and Hull will go straight back down to the Championship.

Frank Lampard's Coventry are tipped to mount the strongest survival challenge, with an expected points total only fractionally lower than Nottingham Forest's.

Forest, 16th-placed finishers last term, have appointed former Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner as their new head coach but are predicted to finish a place below his old club in 17th.

Newcastle are also expected to endure another difficult season. The Magpies slumped to a disappointing 12th-placed finish last term. Following a turbulent summer in which they have sold key players Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon and replaced Eddie Howe with Matthias Jaissle, they are predicted to come 13th.

The only positive for Newcastle is that they are predicted to finish ahead of rivals Sunderland, who will come 15th this season, according to the Sky Sports supercomputer, despite achieving an historic seventh-placed finish last season.

Everton, up from 13th to 11th, are the only team in our bottom half with a predicted position for the new season higher than their actual finishing position last term. The other spots in the bottom half are taken by Fulham, in 12th, and Leeds, in 14th.

Title and relegation probabilities compared

Adding probability percentages to the predicted table provides further context on the title, top four and relegation battles.

Arsenal's 50.6 per cent chance of winning the title, according to the Sky Sports supercomputer, is nearly twice as high as any other side's, underlining their status as strong favourites.

With a 27.5 per cent chance, Manchester City are deemed far more likely winners than Liverpool on 10.2 per cent. Manchester United, meanwhile are only given a 7.3 per cent title chance. Chelsea are given a 3.9 per cent chance, with Spurs next on 0.4 per cent.

Aston Villa have upset the established order by finishing in the top four in two of the last three seasons, but they are only given a 3.6 per cent chance of repeating the feat this season, with Arsenal, City, Liverpool and Manchester United strongly fancied by the supercomputer and Chelsea and Spurs the only other contenders.

Hull, promoted through the play-offs following a sixth-placed Championship finish last season, are given a massive 81.6 chance of relegation, far higher than next-highest Ipswich on 47.5 per cent.

Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, are given the same chance of relegation as Coventry on 43.1 per cent. Crystal Palace and Sunderland are rated at 32.8 per cent and 22.4 per cent respectively to go down, ahead of Leeds on nine per cent.
