Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has announced that Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard is self-isolating after coming into contact with someone who tested positive for coronavirus.

The 27-year-old has therefore been ruled out of United's Champions League clash with Istanbul Basaksehir on Tuesday night.

Lingard posted a video of him working on an exercise bike in his home on Monday as he keeps up his fitness while he is not allowed to come into the club's training ground.

In his pre-match press conference ahead of Tuesday's match, Solskjaer said: 'Jesse is still self-isolating because he's been in contact with a COVID positive. He'll be back soon.'

Lingard has not been named in any of United's Champions League matchday squads so far this season, despite Solskjaer being able to name nine substitutes in his side.

The midfielder has also been left out of the majority of the club's Premier League squads this, with his last appearance on the substitutes' bench coming in the 6-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in October.

Lingard's only two outings this season have come in the Carabao Cup, though he only played the final nine minutes of United's fourth round victory over Brighton in September.

Solskjaer is hoping that Paul Pogba is able to return to the United side on Tuesday night after missing Saturday's win over West Brom due to a minor injury.

The French midfielder came back from international duty with a minor niggle but the Manchester United boss claims he is desperate for Pogba to come back.

Solskjaer added: 'I hope Paul is going to be available.

'He trained this morning, it's still uncomfortable and (there's) some pain, so we'll make a decision on that in the morning (Tuesday).'

The Norwegian manager also confirmed that defenders Luke Shaw and Phil Jones are still long-term absentees.
