Solskjaer admits Dean Henderson should have saved AC Milan's equaliser

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted that Dean Henderson could have done more to keep out AC Milan’s injury-time equaliser at Old Trafford last night.

It was particularly disappointing for Henderson, who failed to save Simon Kjaer’s header, because the England international has been given a chance to impress in the absence of David de Gea.

‘It’s a header from six yards, he can save it of course,’ said Solskajer. ‘I have seen him save them but it’s the structure we lose. We dropped too deep and we get blocked off and he (Kjaer) makes a good run and gets a good header on it. We should have attacked the ball with the men we had there.

‘We’re disappointed but then again that can happen. I’ve been part of a team that has scored in injury time in Europe myself from a set-play.

‘We’ve got to take that on the chin, travel down there and go for it.’

The United boss backed his team to go through to the quarter-finals at the San Siro next week, having beaten Real Sociedad 4-0 in Turin in the last round.

‘Of course, we fancy our chances,’ he added. ‘We have been exciting away from home, especially against Sociedad. That was as template of how we want to play in games.’

Solskjaer also paid tribute to Amad Diallo after the teenager scored his first senior goal for United.

‘It was a great moment for the kid,’ he said. ‘The pass was incredible that more or less made the goal. The flick is probably the only thing he can do, but it was perfect timing and perfect weight on it.’

United suffered another injury setback with Anthony Martial set to join Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani on the sidelines for Sunday’s game at home to West Ham.
