Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted Manchester United are at 'rock bottom' following a humiliating 5-0 defeat against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.
United found themselves two down within 13 minutes as Naby Keita and Diogo Jota scored for the visitors, before Mohamed Salah scored twice as Liverpool became the first team to score four goals in the first half at Old Trafford in Premier League history.
The Egyptian added a fifth after the restart to give Liverpool their largest ever win away at United as he became the first player to score a Premier League hat-trick at Old Trafford.
Speaking after the game, Solskjaer did not try to sugarcoat a capitulation of historic proportion.
'We are at rock bottom, we cannot feel any worse than this,' he told Sky Sports.
'It is the darkest day I have had leading these players. Not good enough individually or as a team.'
United have kept one clean sheet in their last 21 games and the defeat leaves them eight points adrift of league leaders Chelsea after just nine games.
United have lost three of their last four league games and the chorus of those calling for Solskjaer and his staff to be sacked grew even louder on social media during the dismal capitulation against Liverpool.
The Norwegian, however, defended the job of his coaching staff and his philosophy.
'The coaching staff are very good, brilliant, and I choose the way we approach the game,' he added.
'Today we were not clinical enough going forward and when you give good players spaces they score.'

This loss hurts. Really hurts. Obviously losing to Liverpool is always bad, but losing in this manner sparks rage and fury inside every fans mind. Players simply didn't turn up for this one. They were unmotivated, clueless and simply poor. It's hard to look at anything positive from this result and going forward right now. Sadly I think the time is up for Ole now. It's about time the hierarchy puts him and the club out of their respective misery. Sadly it's too big a job for him. I will always respect him for what he has done. And lastly for the club, I'll always love this club no matter what the result is. I'll always support and cheer for my club.It doesn't matter if we win or loose, Man United will always have my heart❤️. We Stick together through the darkest times only to celebrate together when the glory arrives. Glory Glory Man United
