Tottenham will prioritise five positions as they look to strengthen their squad in the summer despite shutting down their recruitment operation and Preliminary moves have been made to prise Willian from Chelsea when his contract expires in the summer, although that deal is currently on hold, Football Insider understands.

London’s richest club have put their scouting work on hold in April and May due to the financial crisis caused by Covid-19.

A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that transfer plans are nonetheless “advanced” with key targets identified for the positions manager Jose Mourinho wants to strengthen.

Spurs are in the market for a new centre-forward to compete with Harry Kane after his latest injury troubles, a midfield anchorman, a centre-back, a right-back and an attacking midfielder.

Like all clubs, Spurs are waiting to see how plans to complete the current season unfold, and the impact this will have on their transfer budget.

It is not yet known when the main summer window will open, with the situation fluid and the campaign on hold indefinitely following a meeting of the ruling bodies yesterday.

Nevertheless, Tottenham are set for a major overhaul in the summer after already completing two major deals since Mourinho took over as manager.

Giovani Lo Celso’s loan from Real Betis was converted into a permanent transfer in January, while Steven Bergwijn signed from PSV Eindhoven at the end of the same window.

Both deals cost in excess of £25million.
