BENJAMIN SESKO might have been the loneliest man in Manchester as United fell to a 3-0 defeat against City.
A first-half goal from Phil Foden was added to by a second-half brace from Erling Haaland - which prompted many Red Devils fans watching in the away end to head home early.
Fingers will be pointed towards the likes of Luke Shaw, Manuel Ugarte and manager Ruben Amorim in the autopsy of the flat performance.
But, up front, Sesko cut an isolated figure as many of the bad memories of his much-maligned United predecessor Rasmus Hojlund echoed throughout the Etihad.
The 22-year-old arrived from RB Leipzig this summer in a £74million deal to replace the Dane, who opened his goal account on debut for new club Napoli on Saturday.
Often last year, Hojlund, 22, was isolated and looked bereft of confidence as he was starved of service and meaningful opportunities to contribute to the game.
And today against City, Sesko was very much cast in the same role, even after an entire summer transfer window hoping to remedy the issues.
The numbers behind Sesko today made for worrying reading.
He had just 20 touches in the 80 minutes he played, none of which were in the penalty area.
One shot, an early half chance which was easily dealt with by City debutant Gianluigi Donnarumma, was his only sight of goal in the entire match.
Sesko competed in nine duels, winning only three, while he also attempted 14 passes, completing just eight.
But perhaps the most damning finding from the game was his average position.
Sesko, the player who is meant to be the tip of the spear in the Red Devils attack, found himself deeper than three team-mates and inside the CENTRE CIRCLE.
Attacking midfielders Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo might be understandable for being higher than Sesko, but left wing-back Patrick Dorgu was ina more advanced position on average.
In fact, the Slovenian's average position was more closely aligned to central midfielders Bruno Fernandes and Ugarte, while right wing-back Noussair Mazraoui was also only just behind the same line.
Reacting on social media, fans were left sympathetic and concerned about the similarities between Sesko and Hojlund last year - with all the effort they put in going to waste without appropriate support.
One fan on social media said: "I feel bad for Sesko man, turning him into another Hojlund."
A second said: "For everyone who kept criticising Hojlund. Do you still think he was the problem? Look at Sesko today. He did his job every time he got the ball, but where was the SERVICE?"
A third added: "Unless something changes, Sesko's guna find the exact same issues Hojlund did."
Another said: "Sesko is suffering from the same issues Hojlund was suffering from. No one is finding him."
But Amorim urged patience for Sesko, telling BBC Radio 5 Live: "He is going to feel that he is in the strongest league in the world. We can help Sesko to use his qualities, but it will take time."
Whatever happens, United and Sesko which need far more impetus and passion in their game next week when they host Chelsea at Old Trafford - where fan patience is reaching its limits.

i swear there is absolutely nothing wrong with this players just that the formation is not working for them! how can sesko score when there is no accurate passes too him from the middle or from the wing? playing players off positions, how can you be playing Dorgu as a winger someone who doesn't know what too do with the ball in oponet boxes! benching Mainoo for Ugarte? playing a creative midfielder in a defense role? playing two wingers in same position without having another winger too change the game at second half? selling out all wingers out of selfishness? is that an ambeciou coach?

Coach ELENUs,just talks no idea of what they’re saying, the problem is not the coach,Man U needs a creative midfielders to start scoring goals, sesko’s heatmap vs city shows that our midfield is very weak, you people need to learn how to analyze things by yourselves not what press and haters of club says you will just swallow them hook line and sinker, you guys are human beings with brains, use your heads.

What do you expect if you keep hiring average coaches and buying average players. If your team is not scoring goals, the simplest thing to do first is to focus on defence: get a good keeper and tighten defence by buying the best of defenders to prevent conceding goals. The next thing is to look at the forward line. Fortunately, United managed to secure two good utility forwarders: Bryan and Cunh, that was ok, The next could have been to focus on defence: a keeper, a defender, and a midfielder were enough to have completed the whole team. What was the essence in buying Sesko? the third forwarder was not necessary.
442 is the best formation for United for now

This amorin’s system obviously cannot work with united. United struggled every time with that system. 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 will allow more supply to a striker. Imagine Bruno, cunha and mbeumo as the 3 in the formation following sesko. This will also allow input of Mainoo with casemiro in the middle.
the only substitute he can make is to bring on a defender no any other attacking options he sold all the attacking duals we had who is this guy I'm failing to understand, suppose mbuemo got injured today who ll play on that role amad is not much reliable he has been living a career full of injuries as well, what ll happen if all these players are injured

Fans now want amorim to get sacked and say new manager is going to win matches, but how many managers they have sacked and wheres the improvement. No one can change them . If they sack amorim, then also it will be the same problem. When ETH was there , they criticized him and now amorim ,before ole and many more . After leaving manu , all the players score goals and perform better. Now look at sesko, mbeumbo, cunha no one is performing. whereas hoijuland scored in his debut.

Guys I am think that Amorim formation is not working for strikers ,check it up na ,when Erik ten hag was coaching with his formation rasmus atleast was scoring ,but since Amorim came over it is another story with his formation, the worst is just that he is saying he can’t change is philosophy unless you change the man!!! that's the thing at man u, midfielders they don't put enough to make strikers get involved in the game you ll always change strikers, I see the problem in Fernandez even if some of you can argue but I see it

Man utd fans should just be watching football without hoping for anything until God intervene in man utd…..ETH that you guys was complaining about. Now has a better tactic than Amorim……..honestly, I don’t think anyone on this earth knows what exactly is man utd problem. They have signed different managers and good players but still not get a good result. I give up on man utd since casemiro turned to flop….. man utd have casemiro and Bruno in midfield and things is still not going well

the attacking department was never the problem. the problem always been the midfield. compare to other top teams and try to name a top mf man utd have in post saf era.

people still don't understand that Bruno is d biggest problem man utd has because he scores goals. everybody around him struggles he is d most selfish player on d pitch . he spends half the time looking for someone to blame on the pitch both for his mistakes always talking shit. he lost possession more than any other player as always on the pitch taking all penalty n free kicks even when someone that can do it better is on the pitch like Ericson n Co . as long as Bruno is on the pitch United will struggle. I can't believe United rejected 100m for this guy
he lost possession cause he likes taking risks and that's what makes him create more chances than anyone in the league

He missed a glorious opportunity, one on one with the goalkeeper and was not even offside. Haaland would have scored that goal.
For your information that "glorious chance " you said he got was cancelled cause there was a handball in thr buildup to the shot so even if he scored it would have been ruled out

The little time van Nisterooy spent with the squad was awesome. United should have given him till the end of the season but they let him go because of Amorin

Sesko is not the problem or either of them upfront, the middle or the backline is the problem. The guys are not working hard to provide services for the strikers to score goals, what do you expect from them? And generally, the team is not good at changing the game plan during play. Take a look at the likes of Manchester City itself, not to mention Liverpool, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Barcelona in Spain, look at how they perform in games. The Coach might sometimes not be the problem but the players themselves, they should learn how to change game dynamics for themselves when results aren't going in their favour.
thanks the God that there are people who think like human, not some fans who knows nothing about football only watching from another dimension, thanks bro

This is not about a player slow or sharp, the guy is not getting any servicing. Imagine a striker coming so deep just to add more body in the midfield….. the coach is fucked , how can he used Bruno as a deep midfielder, who is he expecting to create chances for the striker
