Stuttgart 2-1 Dortmund: BVB suffer 2-game losing streak, Fullkrug scores

Serhou Guirassy marked his return to Bundesliga action with a second-half winner as Stuttgart beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 at the MHPArena.

Both sides came into this clash on the back of disappointing defeats during Matchday 10, as the hosts suffered a surprising 2-0 loss away at Heidenheim and the visitors succumbed 4-0 to Bayern Munich in Der Klassiker. 

Hosts Stuttgart initially responded the better, putting Dortmund under all kinds of pressure before the break. Within 10 minutes, Die Schwaben earned a penalty when Undav was fouled by Gregor Kobel, but the goalkeeper dusted himself down and kept out Chris Führich's spot-kick against his former club. Kobel was in inspired form throughout the first half, producing fantastic saves to deny Enzo Millot and Jamie Leweling twice apiece, while Dortmund were dealt a blow when Mats Hummels was forced off with an injury shortly before the half-hour mark. 

Dortmund took the lead against the run of play, however, when Füllkrug tapped home Julian Ryerson's low cross with BVB's first shot on target. Stuttgart would have been very unfortunate not to go into the interval on level terms and, with half-time fast approaching, Undav ensured they didn't, keeping his cool to finish off a swift attacking move.

While clear-cut opportunities were not as frequent at the beginning of the second period, Stuttgart remained on top. Führich was presented with a fantastic opening to complete his side's comeback, but pushed his attempt narrowly wide of the post. Nico Schlotterbeck and substitute Ramy Bensebaini then almost combined for a comical own-goal with around an hour on the clock, before Marcel Sabitzer's deflected shot struck the post on its way behind for a corner. 

There were plenty of cheers when 14-goal Guirassy came on with just over 20 minutes remaining after recovering from injury, but it was fellow replacement Josha Vagnoman who had his side's next effort, shooting straight at Kobel from a promising position. Waldemar Anton and Niklas Süle traded opportunities before Sebastian Hoeneß's side won their second penalty of the match when Silas Mvumpa was brought down by Kobel. On this occasion, Guirassy stepped up, making no mistake. Stuttgart held on to triumph, ending a two-game losing streak in the top flight in the process. Dortmund, meanwhile, have now lost back-to-back Bundesliga clashes after previously going 17 unbeaten.
