Following Japan's loss to Brazil, national team goalkeeper Zion Suzuki spoke to the media.
As Japan's undisputed starting goalkeeper, Zion Suzuki has earned recognition for his world-class saves and precise distribution. Though the team was eliminated in the first round of the FIFA World Cup knockout stage, he remained resolute after the match: "Ultimately, I couldn't keep a clean sheet, and I must accept that. We still need to become stronger."
Throughout this FIFA World Cup, Suzuki made numerous crucial saves, delivering near-miraculous moments in virtually every match. His performance against Brazil further demonstrated world-class goalkeeper standards.
During the match, when facing Vinicius's dangerous shot, Suzuki deflected the ball with a fingertip touch, denying what appeared to be a certain goal. He remained commanding throughout, repeatedly keeping Japan competitive.
Despite the eventual loss, Suzuki acknowledged the team's effort while expressing his frustration. Regarding Japan's first-round exit from the FIFA World Cup knockout stage, Suzuki believes the team has areas requiring improvement.
He said: "Though we defended for long stretches, the entire team showed determination, consistently blocking shots and fighting with their bodies until the final whistle. My only focus was doing everything I could to help the team. Even after conceding, I kept encouraging myself to keep fighting."
He added: "But ultimately, I couldn't hold that final line of defense, which is deeply regrettable and something I must accept. I realize I must continue developing and growing stronger."
