MANCHESTER UNITED could be playing in the Championship next season.
That's the fear of former captain Rio Ferdinand.
The Red Devils have suffered their worst campaign since 1973-74 - the last time they were relegated.
And United icon Ferdinand thinks the drop is a real possibility as he can only see his former side getting a result in ONE of the 13 Premier League fixtures they have left - against bottom three side Leicester.
Ferdinand said: “Do you realise we’re that close? Someone said we need 11 points just to stay up.
“I’ve got the fixture list: Everton away, Ipswich at home, Arsenal and Nottingham Forest away.
“Before hosting Man City, and going to Newcastle away, and then Wolves, Bournemouth, Brentford, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Leicester.
“The only place I see us getting anything — and I’m not even saying a win — is Leicester. I’m not seeing wins. That’s the problem.”
Relegation would likely mean a huge change at the club with high earners shipped out and young players brought in.
Victor Lindelof, Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton will likely leave no matter the season outcome as they are all out of contract in the summer.
United could look to cash in on Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford - who went out on loan in January - as well as the underperforming Andre Onana, which could mean a chance for Altay Bayindir.
Other big earners Casemiro, Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez, Noussair Mazraouri and Joshua Zirkzee would likely want to leave too, as would Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes.
That would mean an entire rebuild with only a few faces remaining - stalwart Harry Maguire, Rasmus Hojlund and academy graduate Kobbie Mainoo.
The Red Devils would be keen to hang onto Leny Yoro having shelled out a big fee as an investment in the youngster last summer.
Amad is also a key asset and only signed a new five-year contract last month, tripling his wages in the process.
Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven are new additions and long-term investments having arrived last month - part of Ineos' transfer strategy to bring in young players with room for potential.
Amorim had to name a substitutes bench consisting of all but one academy player against Tottenham on the weekend - the likes of Jack Fletcher, Jack Moorhouse, and forgotten summer signing Sekou Kone could be given a chance in the Championship.

A reminder that Ruben Amorim wanted to stay at Sporting until the end of the season but Manchester United told him it was now or never. When he left them, Sporting were top of the Champions League and top of Portuguese league with 33/33 points. He inherited one of the most dysfunctional squads in the Premier League at #MUFC - a complete mess. He’s stuck to his system and philosophy but a lot of these players are incapable of implementing it. “If you start changing because of the results, it’s the END for any coach... he was hired because of his idea.”

Manchester United has pulled off in the past season impressive wins such as against Man City, Liverpool, and even Arsenal. I do not see the impossibility of collecting more than 11 points at all. They can do that comfortably with the same players nothing is impossible. Rio should rest in his retirement or stand up and become a Coach and show us what he has.

Amorim has made the team worst with all his derogatory comments about them. at the end of the day they're humans 1st and listening to your coach talk shit about his team whether they win or lose is very depressing. I'm just glad MR is outta there albeit temporarily. no good player having seen the way Amorim talks about his team should never wanna go play for someone like that. this team isn't going to win another game under this fool

I don’t see Man United earning points from the remaining matches except two or three games, they are going down to championship for sure. If Amorim doesn’t change his 3-5-2 formation that means Man U is doomed

Man U should have appointed David Moyes instead.
