Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville led the tributes to Andy Goram following the 58-year-old goalkeeper's death after a short battle with cancer.

Goram cemented his status as a club legend at Rangers having made 260 appearances for the Scottish club and wrote his name into eternal glory by winning five league titles, three Scottish Cups and two League Cups in that time.

The son of goalkeeper Lewis Goram, he was born in Bury but self-identified as Scottish due to his father's links and went on to establish himself as one of Scottish football's all-time greats.

Goram was adored by Rangers fans who loved him so much that a supporters' poll taken in 1999 saw him voted the club's greatest goalkeeper of all time.

The famed shot-stopper spent seven years at Oldham after being released as a teenager by West Brom before moving north of the boarder to join Hibernian.

He spent four years at the Edinburgh club prior to joining Rangers where he went on to forge a career as one of the most successful players in the Glasgow side's history.

Tributes for the 58-year-old have poured in following his passing with former players and pundits taking to Twitter to share their thoughts on Goram's spectacular career.

Former Manchester United teammate turned pundit, Gary Neville, expressed his emotions following Goram's death.

Neville and Goram both formed part of the Old Trafford team that won the Premier League title in 2001 as the latter was brought in by fellow Scotsman Sir Alex Ferguson to help reinforce his side's lack of goalkeepers during an injury crisis.

Kevin Gallacher played alongside Goram during his professional football career and was a frequent in Scotland's international set-up with the Rangers goalkeeper.

Goram won 43 caps for Scotland and was the country's first-choice goalkeeper for both Euro 92 and Euro 96 with an impressive career seeing him later inducted into Scottish Football's Hall of Fame.

Former England international footballer Chris Sutton previously played for Rangers' cross-city rivals Celtic but published a heartfelt message commenting on Goram's passing.

He insisted the goalkeeper had been 'taken far too young' and offered his condolences to Goram's extended family.

Scottish sports broadcaster and lifelong Rangers fan Jim White shared a short but simple message with his followers, writing 'Andy Goram - RIP budddy x' in his online post.

Goram was a talented athlete in almost every sport he tried his hand at and alongside football forged a successful career in cricket.

He went on to win international caps for Scotland's cricket team and is the only person to ever play a first-class international match for his country as well as a major international football match for Scotland.

Aberdeen-born football commentator Derek Rae tipped his hat to both of Goram's sporting careers saying  'Andy Goram was a talented goalkeeper (& pretty decent cricketer too)'.

Rangers announced the tragic news in a post in which they hailed Goram as their 'legendary goalkeeper'.
