The FA are set to be CHARGED by UEFA after beer cups were pelted at Southgate

The Football Assocation are set to be hit in the pocket after beer cups were thrown at Gareth Southgate.

Following the final whistle of the Three Lions underwhelming stalemate with Slovenia the manager went to applaud England's fans who had provided noisy backing throughout another disappointing night in Germany.

However, while the majority applauded back, some booed and two plastic beer cups were thrown, landing at Southgate's feet.

UEFA are expected to take a dim view of the incident with charges an almost certainty, Mail Sport understands.

Previous incidents have seen Albania fined more than 12,000 euros for the 'throwing of objects' at their game with Italy while Scotland were hit with a penalty of more than 5,000 euros when charged with the same offence at their opening day 5-1 humbling by Germany in Munich.

Footage taken shortly after the game shows empty cups being lobbed at England manager Southgate by enraged supporters who booed the team off the pitch during their lap of honour.

Some England fans made obscene hand gestures and shouted at the coach as he applauded the supporters behind the goal.

It was another infuriating night for England, who failed to fulfil their potential against Slovenia, who are ranked 57th in the world.

While substitutes Cole Palmer and Anthony Gordon infused some directness into England's game, it was a largely pedestrian day at the office.

All the same, the Three Lions have topped their group and wait to find out who they will be facing in the last 16.
