The awkward moment when Solskjaer apologised for smiling

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Manchester United tenure has come to an end, after hitting a new low on Saturday with a 4-1 defeat away to Watford in the Premier League. This was the side's seventh loss in 13 games and yet another terrible team performance.

Under pressure, Solskjaer was asked after the match why his players weren't in the correct mindset for the game and his immediate response was to smile, which he quickly apologised for.

"Sorry for smiling there, but that's human beings," Solskjaer said.

"You're surprised [by the start], all these good lads, top players, top professionals. When it's not going for you it's going against you and it's hard to play with that mental break."

Solskjaer sacked

This result leaves United in seventh position in the Premier League table, with just 17 points from 12 games, and 12 points behind league leaders Chelsea.

With this in mind, the club took the decision to sack Solskjaer on Sunday morning.

On Saturday, after the game, he was asked about his future.

"It's a big challenge for everyone at the club," the soon-to-be-dismissed coach said.

"The results are not good enough, we know that. Of course something is wrong.

"I feel for the fans. I feel the same as the fans. We're embarrassed losing the way we do. We are in a very bad run and bad situation. But that is part of football.

"I know they will support the team and the players on the pitch every single day. Sometimes you have to say sorry and that was a sorry for the performance."
