Late on in Argentina's defeat against Venezuela Lionel Messi was served a perfect example of just how different life is when playing for his country compared to Barcelona.
Dario Benedetto had a number of defenders on him and Messi made a perfect run around the back, with a clear path for a pass open for the Boca Juniors forward.
But Benedetto's execution of the backheel pass left much to be desired, as he ended up kicking against himself and ending the attack.
Social media didn't take long to respond, mocking the Boca Juniors frontman and drawing unfavourable comparisons with Luis Suarez.
The Uruguayan had found himself in an almost identical situation the previous weekend against Real Betis, from which he perfectly slipped a pass to the No.10 to score.

Argentina has better players than Portugal ... the likes of Dybala, Di Maria, Higuan, Aguero and co. He has no reason not to win a trophy with them... They were close to winning a trophy then Messi missed the penalty[Crylaugh][Crylaugh]

It’s true Argentina have the names. But they don’t have a team! They all look on waiting for Messi to always do miracles! Watch the finals Argentina has been again and you will see they all wait for Messi to create, playmake and score. Ronaldo was out of the finals but there were dedicated players to win the match for him. Can you say same about Argentina?? Then again comes with their FA and technical handlers. It’s about time Argentina accept they don’t have an able coaches anymore to handle their national team. About four consecutive coaches are finding it difficult to work around Messi, Dybala, Aguero, Icardi, Di Maria, Huguin! Like seriously??? With all these great players they continue to give excuses like Messi should only be a starter. The rest can’t play with Messi and they may not be invited at all or be benched in every match. That’s a pity! Lord have mercy on Messi. This humble dude is carrying too many burden both at Barca and national team!!
