The Colombian artists released their collaboration “Te Quedó Grande” on Friday, as part of Karol G’s new album “Mañana Será Bonito”.
The wait is over. Colombian singers Shakira and Karol G have launched their new song, titled “TQG (Te Quedó Grande)”, which translates as “You were out of your depth”. It’s a collaboration that had generated huge anticipation in recent weeks, particularly as it follows Shakira’s viral track BZRP Music Sessions #53, which contained a host of jibes at her former partner, Gerard Piqué, and his girlfriend, Clara Chía.
“TQG” racks up YouTube views right away
“TQG” was released on all digital platforms at 1am ET on Friday, with the official video of the song appearing on Karol G’s YouTube channel. At the time of writing, the video had already accrued over two million views on the platform.
In their first collaboration, Shakira and Karol G talk about not repeating the mistakes they made in their love life, adding that they have grown stronger by getting over their time with a person who wasn’t right for them. The messages the pair send to their exes are clear. “You left, and I got triple ‘m’: much hotter, much tougher, much lighter,” Shakira sings.
“Baby, what happened? Weren’t you in love?” the track’s chorus asks, amid lines from both singers that talk of their former partners’ desire to “get back together”. “What are you doing looking for me if you know that I don’t repeat mistakes? Tell your new baby that I don’t compete for men.” Shakira and Spanish former footballer Piqué separated in June 2022 after 12 years together, while Karol G and the Puerto Rican rapper Anuel AA broke up in 2021 after a two-year relationship.

“TQG” part of Karol G’s new album
“TQG” is part of Karol G’s new album “Mañana Será Bonito”. It is the fifth single from the record, which was also released on Friday. Another four songs had already come out: “Provenza”, “Gatúbela”, “Cairo” and “X Si Volvemos”.
Karol G’s fourth studio album has 17 songs, with “TQG” number six on the tracklist. In addition to Shakira, other artists who feature on the album include Romeo, Quevedo, Sean Paul, Sech and Carla Morrison.
Shakira is expected to bring out a new album in 2023 - her first since 2019, when she released “Shakira In Concert: El Dorado World Tour”. Her next song is expected to be recorded alongside Manuel Turizo, a Colombian singer who achieved worldwide success with the song “La Bachata”.
