The records Erling Haaland can break after scoring FIVE against RB Leipzig

Erling Haaland made history after scoring five goals in Man City's 7-0 win over RB Leipzig on Tuesday evening.

The Norwegian was in red-hot form in-front of goal as he became just the second player ever, after Lionel Messi, to net five goals in a Champions League match.

It was yet another record that the former Borussia Dortmund striker has broken this season, as he continues to defy belief with his performances at Man City.

In doing so, he took his Champions League tally to 10 goals and his tally in all competitions up to 39 goals for the season, with plenty of games still to play.

And so, here, Sportsmail have taken a look at the five other records that Haaland could still break in the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign.

Most Premier League goals in a single season (34)

Since Haaland's arrival in the English top-flight, discussions over his potential to break the league's single-season scoring record have been rife.

The record currently stands at 34 goals and was set by Andy Cole in 1994 and then matched by Alan Shearer one season later. However, both strikers competed in a 42-game campaign, which is four more than the current structure.

For context, the most goals in a 38-game season was set by Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah during the 2017-18 campaign when he notched 32 goals.

All three of these strikers are likely to have their record broken by the former Borussia Dortmund star, who currently has 28 league goals from 26 appearances.

With 12 games left to go in the campaign and City needing to catch league leaders Arsenal, it's likely that he'll score the six goals needed to level the record.

The 22-year-old currently averages 1.19 goals every 90 minutes of league action, meaning there could be 14 more to come from him!

Most Champions League goals in a single season (17)

After scoring five goals against RB Leipzig in Man City's 7-0 last-16 win on Tuesday night, all eyes have turned to the competition's current single-season record.

It was set by Cristiano Ronaldo during the 2013-14 campaign, where the Portuguese star scored 17 goals during their successful European run.

He scored a penalty during the final against rivals Atletico Madrid, where Los Blancos eventually won the match 4-1 after extra-time.

Haaland currently has 10 in the competition, after doubling his tally in one night, and stands a chance at levelling - or even breaking - Ronaldo's record.

But he'll have to hope that City have a long run in the tournament, given the fact they are already entering the quarter-finals.

That means, at a maximum, he'll have five matches to level Ronaldo's record. It's certainly not out of the question for Haaland to score seven goals in that time, but it'll come down to how far City progress in the tournament.

Most hat-tricks in a Premier League season (5)

The Norwegian has, somehow, already got four Premier League hat-tricks to his name since completing his £51million move to the Etihad in the summer.

He's managed to bag three goals in outings against Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United and Wolves this season, putting him well-within touching distance of the single-season record.

It was set by the Premier League's all-time top goalscorer Alan Shearer in the 1995-96 campaign, where the English talisman scored five hat-tricks.

Tottenham's Harry Kane has come the closest to matching Shearer's tally, after his blistering campaign in 2016-17 where he scored four hat-tricks, before Haaland's impressive season this year.

The Man City star needs one more hat-trick to level Shearer's record and with games against Southampton, Leeds and Everton still to come, Haaland may well overtake the Newcastle legend.

Most consecutive Premier League matches scored in (11)

This one record may be slightly harder than the previous ones for Haaland to reach.

The record for the most consecutive Premier League matches scored in a single-season is 11, which was set by Leicester's Jamie Vardy during the 2015-16 campaign.

Haaland did score in his last league outing, during Man City's 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, meaning he would have to score in the next 10 games to level Vardy's tally.

It's not impossible for the Norwegian to achieve, but with Liverpool in their next league match, it'll certainly be a tough test.

Most goals in an English top-flight season (60)

Okay, this one might be impossible - even for Erling Haaland.

The current record for the most goals in a single-season in the English top-flight stands at 60 goals and is held by Everton legend Dixie Dean.

Dean wrote his name into football history after reaching the staggering tally in the English First Division 1927–28 season.

In order to match the incredible record, Haaland would have to score 32 goals in the remaining 12 Premier League games for Man City.

Thats 2.6 goals-per-game, roughly. And so, despite his sensational performances for City so far, you'd have to presume that even he won't be able to break that record.
