The former France striker was initially suspended but his permanent departure has now been confirmed by the principality
Monaco have confirmed the sacking of manager Thierry Henry after just 20 games in charge of the relegation-threatened Ligue 1 club.
The former Arsenal and France striker was initially suspended earlier this week but his permanent departure has now been confirmed.
Leonardo Jardim, who was sacked by the club in October, has taken over and signed a two-and-a-half year contract.
Henry succeeded Jardim with great fanfare in October but has struggled to secure consistent results in what is his first managerial role, having previously been an assistant to Roberto Martinez with Belgium.
He managed just five wins in 20 games in all competitions and failed to pull the club away from the relegation zone.
The 41-year-old has been busy in the January transfer window, bringing in four players including Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas, but those new faces have failed to spark an immediate upturn in results.
Monaco are without a win in four matches in all competitions and haven’t won in five in the league, stretching back to the start of last month.
Last weekend they were thrashed 5-1 at home to Strasbourg, a result that left the principality 19th in Ligue 1 and three points from safety.
In the wake of that defeat, Henry was criticised for comments made toward Strasbourg defender Kenny Lala, relating to the player's grandmother, for which he later apologised.
Three days later Monaco were knocked out of the French Cup after a shock 3-1 home defeat to Ligue 2 side Metz, a result that appears to have sealed Henry’s fate.
Franck Passi took Monaco training on Friday morning and will take temporary charge for the team's crucial Ligue 1 clash against Dijon on Saturday.
Prior to his departure Henry had threatened to make wholesale changes to his side for the Dijon game, claiming he would only pick players who had the stomach for a relegation fight.
He was unable to act on those words however, with his tenure on the French Riviera brought to an abrupt end.

Obviously it was a wrong timing and choice for Henry to have taken the job, even as Monaco was already in tatters and doomed to fail , probably he should have continued with Martinez on Belgium job . This only confirmed the fact that a great player is not always a great and successful manager , even though greats like Zizou and Guardiola has proven otherwise. Really feel for him going through this awful experience.

Well, there we have it: the first coach-sacking of 2019. Here's concrete proof that because A succeeded as both player and coach, doesn't necessarily mean that B will have the same story. Classic example: legendary Zinedine Zidane, and his fellow legend Thierry Henry. Anyway, wishing Mr. Henry the best in his future coaching endeavors, if at all he intends to return to coaching. One more thing, Mr Henry: it's one thing to sit as a pundit and criticize coaches, and it's another thing to actually be a coach. Good luck. Email to Thierry Henry from Jose Mourinho: Inbox Subject: I Feel Your Pain, Bro... Hey Henry, it's me, the Special One, remember...? Anyway, heard that Monaco have decided to let you go. Yeah, I know how hard that feels, and I totally can relate. Same shit happened to me last month with Man United. I mean, doing my best to push the team forward and nothing coming out of it, and all because of that virus Pogba. Guess you knew that already. But we're both legends, even if I wasn't a player and you a coach. And I'm sure we'll bounce back from this. Just wanted to let you know that I feel your pain, Bro. I really do.

Monaco is a totally business minded club... We sell the players to bring profit... If team wins after this, you stay... If team fails, you are kicked out.... It's about profits and success, resources or not

they need to buy players and stop changing coaches like panties. U sold all ur first team players and u are expecting to move forward without buying replacements.

He was too proud and arrogant, now he knows what real coaching is. He can join Neville.

As for me henry shouldn't have accepted the offer of coaching Monaco in the first place. they were in trouble and it's his first coaching job. unsurprisingly, it has been a failure. a football pundit once said: "if your first coaching role goes badly, you're not likely to get another one".

well he's not doing too great but if u look at Monaco's situation rn.. they have 10+ players injuried and sold many talents last transfer window.. and have a mid core coach like Henry. if there weren't all these stuff happening at least Henry can do a okay job

Even Ole can't save Monaco who are relegation bound. No stars how to shine, all useless players left.

Monaco sold all their best players that played under Jardim, fired Jardim for not being able to inspire the average bunch of players that remained, hired and inexpirence Henry to try and take mediocrity forward, only to sack him and replaced him with Jardim again. #DumbOrganization

All i like to say is, coach Henry deserved to be sacked, not only been a inexperience coach, but with the mentality he's having, he can never be a good coach, but if he change his ideology toward coaching, he might improve, but he had learned enough lessons to improve his coach skill, even Pep or Ancelotti couldn't accept that job at that moment or couldn't succeed if mistakenly taking that job, when a team is into mess and not with in the transfers market period; no good coach is going to accept such job. so Coach Henry i will advice you to go coach Coca Cola league or better you enjoy yours Retirement with yours family.

I've been thinking that what sense does it make to re-sign the coach that doomed you in the first place? In my opinion, Leonardo Jardim must have been trying to push his way back few weeks into his replacement. He could have claimed he's capable of reviving what he killed, he could have been a critic of Henry from the inception of Henry's appointment (Henry's performance could have convinced the board that Hardin is right), and above all, he could have given the club a good bargain on the contract issue just to prove himself which is economical from the club's point of view. Else, I see no reason why a club would retake their sacked coach and not try someone else.
