This is how much Monterrey’s new coach will earn: salary and contract details

On Wednesday, Rayados made it official: their new head coach is Domènec Torrent, the former Atlético San Luis boss.

How much will Torrent earn at Rayados?

Contrary to certain rumors, the Spaniard has signed a 12-month deal in Monterrey, not a two-year contract.

Torrent replaces Martín Demichelis, who was dismissed this month after failing to steer Rayados beyond the quarter-finals of the Clausura 2025 playoffs.

Torrent, who was once an assistant to current Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola, has reportedly agreed to a $1.5 million annual salary at the Estadio BBVA.

Having built a solid reputation in Mexico, the 62-year-old also attracted interest from Chivas Guadalajara - who are looking for a new head coach after parting company with Gerardo Espinoza - but he finally opted to join the five-time Mexican champions.

When will Torrent make his debut as Monterrey boss?

Torrent’s first game in charge of Rayados will come at the FIFA Club World Cup on June 17, when Monterrey begin their tournament campaign against Inter Milan.

Having reached this month’s UEFA Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain, the Italians could be the European champions by the time they face Rayados at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.

Monterrey then play Argentinians River Plate on June 21, before concluding the group stage against Japan’s Urawa Reds four days later. Both games also take place at the Rose Bowl.

Serial trophy winner alongside Pep

A coach who typically prefers a 4-4-2 formation, Torrent won 23 trophies as Guardiola’s assistant at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and City.

In addition to his one-year spell in charge of San Luis, he has also served as head coach at New York City FC, Flamengo and Galatasaray.
