Former Germany midfield maestro Toni Kroos has delivered a scathing assessment of his country’s performance despite their narrow victory over Ghana, admitting that the Black Stars outplayed Germany in midfield.

Kroos, known for his composure and tactical intelligence during his playing days, did not mince words in his evaluation of the team’s showing, describing the result as fortunate rather than deserved.

“Germany used to be known for its midfield. It’s a disgrace to see Ghana outplay us there,” he said. “We looked average; it was just a lucky win.”

The former Germany national football team star also questioned the team’s tactical setup, particularly the deployment of Joshua Kimmich, insisting the Bayern Munich player should be restored to a central midfield role to stabilize the team.

“Joshua Kimmich should be playing in midfield,” Kroos stressed, highlighting concerns over balance and control in Germany’s engine room.

Beyond structural issues, Kroos pointed to inefficiency in front of goal as another major drawback, noting that Germany squandered several scoring opportunities that could have put the game beyond doubt.

“We also wasted too many chances. I expected more from the team,” he added.

Despite ending on the winning side, Kroos warned that such performances fall well below the standards required to compete at the highest level, particularly with the FIFA World Cup in sight.

“You can’t win the World Cup playing like this,” he concluded.

His comments underscore both Ghana’s impressive midfield display and growing concerns about Germany’s form, as both nations continue to fine-tune their squads ahead of major international competitions.
