Ferran Torres saluted the "spirit and intensity" demonstrated by Barcelona during their 3-1 victory over Elche.

Hansi Flick's side reduced the gap on LaLiga leaders Real Madrid to five points once more, after a comfortable win at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.

Barca laid down an early marker with Lamine Yamal and Torres on target inside the opening 11 minutes, the latter netting his 50th goal for the Blaugrana in all competitions.

Marcus Rashford then struck after the break to put the result beyond doubt, and Torres believes his team-mates are beginning to hit their stride and match their efforts of last season.

"It was important to come out strong and intense, take the lead and play the game we want," he told DAZN.

"We already knew the game Elche were going to play against us. We started very well, then we became complacent, but we found our spirit and intensity.

"I think we are finding the Barca of last season, who ate the grass from the first minute."

Rashford's goal took his direct goal involvements in all competitions this season to 11 (six goals, five assists), a tally only bettered by Kylian Mbappe (20) and Julian Alvarez (12) among LaLiga players.

The England international ended the game with team-high totals for dribbles (seven), duels contested (10) and shots (six), yet believes he still has plenty of room for improvement.

"I try to give my best. I could have done better against Elche ,and I promise to improve because I'm not completely happy in general with my game," he said.

"We work hard to win. We go game by game. We need to continue playing as a team. This is Barca, and the demand must always be maximum."
