Donny van de Beek's 15th-minute goal gave Ajax a first-leg lead against Tottenham in their Champions League last-four tie.

Van de Beek slots the ball home into the bottom corner after finding space inside the penalty area and he has plenty of time to pick his spot with just Lloris to beat.

It was excellent build-up play from the visitors, working the ball down the left wing, before coming inside and Ziyech played a lovely ball into Van de Beek, who just managed to stay onside and then provide the finish.

Lovely one-two touch football from Ajax and Ziyech plays a great ball through the Tottenham defence, straight into the path of Van de Beek.

38' Vertonghen fainted from collision & subbed by Sissoko

Stoppage in play here as Tottenham have two players down in the Ajax penalty area, after Alderweireld and Vertonghen both collide with Onana, but Vertonghen has come worse off, with a bad head injury.

Vertonghen has come back onto the pitch, but he doesn't appear to be able to continue and Sissoko is getting ready on the sidelines. A big blow for Spurs.

Neres goes so close to making it 2-0, after the visitors move the ball quickly around the edge of the box and Tadic lays the ball through to Neres, who fires a first-time shot at goal, which strikes the woodwork and then bounces back into the box, only to be cleared by the Spurs defence.

Ajax took a big step towards reaching their first Champions League final since 1996 as Donny van de Beek's early strike earned them a 1-0 first-leg advantage at Tottenham in their semi-final clash.

Spurs, at this stage of the competition for the first time in over half a century, were overwhelmed in the opening stages and fortunate that Ajax's intricate passing and movement only resulted in the one goal.

Van de Beek scored that, having gathered Hakim Ziyech's precise pass before sitting down Hugo Lloris with a couple of feints prior to his finish.

The Eredivisie leaders almost scored a second on Tuesday only for David Neres' late effort to come back off a post, but they still took charge of the tie ahead of the return leg in Amsterdam next week.
