Steven Bergwijn scored a superb volley on his debut as Tottenham earned a 2-0 victory over Manchester City, who dominated possession but missed a penalty and had Oleksandr Zinchenko sent off.
Pep Guardiola's men were perhaps guilty of overplaying in front of goal across the course of a game that exploded into life when Hugo Lloris saved an Ilkay Gundogan spot-kick in a frenetic climax a tense first half at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The champions remained on top until Zinchenko received a second booking and his marching orders, leaving Spurs to capitalise on their man advantage almost immediately with Bergwijn's memorable strike after 63 minutes.
Son Heung-Min's seventh top-flight goal of the season left City with too much to do in the final 20 minutes and they suffered a first defeat in six league outings that all but extinguishes their already faint title hopes with Liverpool 22 points clear at the top of the table.

10' Sterling goes down in the box but ref says no penalty!
Aurier tries to keep up with Sterling as he dribbles into the box off the left and the England forward ends up on his backside under a bit of pressure from the Spurs man.
12' Yellow Card! Sterling booked
Sterling catches Alli on the ankle with his studs when he slightly overruns the ball, and doesn't complain when Mike Dean gives him a yellow.
VAR has a look for a potential red card but sees sense and upholds the yellow.
27' OFF THE POST! Aguero nearly scores
Sanchez's lazy pass into midfield is picked off by Mahrez who feeds Aguero with a lucky touch off Winks.
He holds off Sanchez and goes for Lloris' near post, only for a nick off the goalkeeper's foot to turn it onto the post and away.
40' Penalty Miss! Lloris saves Gundogan's penalty
PENALTY TO MAN CITY! Mahrez's ball inside is swiped at by Sterling and pretty much missed altogether, picked up by Aguero and a robust challenge from Aurier leaves him on the ground.
Mike Dean makes it clear he thinks Aurier won the ball but almost 90 seconds after the original decision is made, VAR has its say! Aurier didn't get the ball after all, and after blowing up Dean points to the spot! What a bit of drama this is!
PENALTY SAVED! Lloris goes down to his left and keeps out his terrible effort! But then he swipes at Sterling as he picks up the rebound... Is that another penalty?
VAR REVIEW & NO PENALTY! That looked a penalty all day long - but this time VAR hasn't given it.
49' Unbelievable! Gundogan misses a golden chance
Man City counter, Lloris decides to try to beat Tanganga to the ball and ends up on his backside on the edge of the box, Sterling passes unselfishly to Gundogan on the left who just has to get it on target. It's not the best of passes but he slides it well over the bar from 12 yards.
60' Second Yellow Card! Zinchenko sent off
Winks drives straight at the visiting defence following a poor City corner. Zinchenko makes what looks a typical Pep tactical foul but he's made to pay for it when he receives his marching orders with a second yellow.
63' GOAL! Tottenham 1-0 Man City (Bergwijn)
Man City don't deal with a Tottenham corner, Lucas looks to his midfield partner and Bergwijn brings it down on his chest before rifling the ball into the far corner. A brilliant goal for the Spurs debutant!
69' Injured Bergwijn subbed off
Lamela's going to be replacing Spurs' goalscorer Bergwijn, who is down and getting some makeshift treatment for what looks like a cramp.
71' GOAL! Tottenham 2-0 Man City (Son)
Ndombele finds Son on the edge of the box in a bit of space, his first touch opens him up for a shot and he beats Ederson at his near post with a bit of help from a deflection off Fernandinho.
85' Injured Sterling subbed off
Sterling, who's been carrying an injury for a little while, hobbles off for Bernardo Silva.

If you are willing to sign, sign a player like Bergwijn. What a debut he had !! Against a best attacking team and he scored goal in his first game !!! EXCELLENT.

IIf you jump from the top of the Burj khalifa, still you would not Fall as much as the standard of Sterling's game has fallen in the last couple of months.

5 Things I summed up from today's match: 1. Till now, I thought being a Manchester United Fan was tough. But now after today's match, I realized being Man City Fan is the toughest. 2. If been Pep, I would not mind putting all city players in the meat grinder. 3. With immense Vow with Almighty in witness, I genuinely congrats Liverpool for EPL title. 4. Man City really cannot defeat Tottenham now. Congrats Jose Mourinho and Tottenham. 5. Man City is now turning to play Europa Cup soon.
