Spurs will sell Eric Dier this summer unless he commits his future to the club.
Sportsmail understands that the England star is reluctant to sign a new deal amid concerns over reduced game-time under Jose Mourinho.
Dier’s contract expires in 2021 and chairman Daniel Levy wants to avoid a situation whereby another player enters the final year of his deal, as has been the case with Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.
The 26-year-old wants assurances over his first-team standing but, having not started in the Premier League since before Christmas, they have not been forthcoming. It is thought that Dier would also prefer to play at centre-back as opposed to holding midfield.
He would not be short of suitors should the summer arrive with no new deal having been signed and sources have suggested that a move abroad could appeal.
Dier made his professional debut at Sporting Lisbon before a £4million switch to Spurs in 2014. He has since made over 200 appearances for the North London club and won 40 England caps.
However, his continued presence on the bench at Spurs means he is unlikely to feature in Gareth Southgate’s squad for Euro 2020, and that, too, is a frustration for the player.
