Tottenham want to talk to Nagelsmann about their managerial vacancy

Tottenham wish to talk to Julian Nagelsmann about their now-vacant managerial position.

After a week of intense speculation - and confusion - the north London club finally announced late on Sunday evening that Antonio Conte had departed via mutual consent.

It came after his extraordinary rant following the club's 3-3 draw with Southampton last week, in which he attacked the players and cited the club's modern day failures in major competitions.

With Conte's departure at some interval between either now or the summer having been expected for some time, the club have been able to draw up a list of options as they look to land a replacement this summer. Cristian Stellini will takeover until the end of the campaign with Ryan Mason as his assistant.

Nagelsmann, who was shockingly sacked by Bayern Munich on Friday, is in the frame and Daniel Levy wishes to talk to him. Thomas Tuchel, who had been in contention and would reportedly have taken the job, replaced the 35-year-old at the Bavarian giants.

Mauricio Pochettino is a name that much of the fanbase still hankers for, with his chant still regularly heard at home and away games.

The Argentine would be a popular choice for the support and remains close with Levy, but there is understood to be opposition in some quarters. He was sacked inn November 2019 after a poor start to the season with accusations that he and his team had gone stale.

Having appointed three rather conservative-in-their-approach managers since Pochettino in Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and most recently Conte, there have been calls from some quarters to take the club back to its traditional roots and hire a coach who will play expansive and exciting football.

Options for Tottenham suggest that wish could soon become a reality for the supporters.

Luis Enrique, who was most recently in charge of the Spain national team, is available. His style would attract, but question marks hang over his having been out of the club management circuit for quite some time.

Meanwhile, Marco Silva who has done a good job with Fulham this season, is an option. Oliver Glasner who guided Eintracht Frankfurt to a Europa League crown last season is another name that has been banded about.

With Conte's preference to playing a back three with wing-backs, the club have spent heavily in those positions over the last year or so. Glasner deploys a similar system with the Bundesliga club, which could be a consideration for Tottenham.

Roberto De Zerbi, who has arguably improved Brighton having taken over in the early autumn after Chelsea poached Graham Potter, is another name in the ring.

Another current Premier League manager who could be in the frame is Steve Cooper, who has been praised this season for the way he has unified a bloated squad at Nottingham Forest.

Thomas Frank, who has guided Brentford to eighth in the Premier League this term, could also be considered.

Sergio Conceicao, the current manager of Porto, is another name on a list of options.

Australian Ange Postecoglou, deeply loved over the border at Celtic, has previously been touted for a move to the Premier League, though no move has as yet materialised.
