Tottenham will try to sign a James Maddison replacement, Thomas Frank confirms

Spurs confirmed that Maddison will undergo surgery after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury and manager Thomas Frank has now revealed that they aim to replace him.

The England international is expected to miss the majority of this season after he had ruptured an anterior cruciate knee ligament during a pre-season game against Newcastle in Seoul and is to have an operation very soon to help his recovery which could be up to nine months. 

Spurs struggled to create many chances against Bayern Munich this week in another friendly where the north London side collapsed in a 4-0 defeat.

Spurs are now preparing to take on Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup next Wednesday, before beginning their 2025/26 Premier League campaign at home to Burnley just three days later. 

Losing Maddison is a massive blow for Frank who has revealed that his side are still in the market this summer as he aims to replace the playmaker who often glued Tottenham’s midfield together. 

"We are definitely in the market in general. 

"Of course, when players get a long-term injury we need to look into that, but generally we are in the market, yes. Nobody feels close or far away. I'm not saying anything before there's anything that is completely 100 per cent. 

"If we think we can find the right one, one who can improve the team, then he will be signed. If we can't, then not."

Frank also commented on striker Dominic Solanke who will lead Tottenham’s attack in the new season, stating that he is "positive" he will return soon despite missing the Bayern clash.

He then revealed that defender Destiny Udogie will return soon in what has been a worrying few weeks for fans before the season has even begun. 

"I'm not worried. We'll know more info in a couple of days."
