Chelsea transfer news: The Blues have turned their attention to USMNT and Leeds midfielder Tyler Adams as Moises Caicedo progress slows down.

Tyler Adams has already opened up on what makes him a top quality player but also the things holding him back from a massive transfer.

Enzo Fernandez, 22, is closely following behind him but outside of that the options used in pre-season are made up of teenagers, players yet to make a competitive debut or a mixture of both.

Andrey Santos, 19, and Fernandez have become a go-to pair during the tour of America but Cesare Casadei and Lewis Hall have also been used. Ian Maatsen is capable of playing in midfield too but has spent his time on the wing instead.

"It depends on the situation of different players," Pochettino cryptically explained when asked what the future of the midfield looks like. "We need at least one more and we are working on that. It depends on what happens in the next few weeks. We will decide and take our decision.

"We are working, the club is working on that. We need to add some player there. We need one more with experience."

Caicedo has long been seen as the answer to the shortage in central areas but after four rejected bids and a £100million ($124m) valuation, Chelsea have so far hit a brick wall in negotiations. Now it is said that Leeds' Adams is on their shortlist of potential options should no more progress be made.

Whilst he is currently recovering from injury that kept him out of the second half of last season, Adams has been speaking about his future. In a conversation with former New York Red Bulls players Bradley Wright-Phillips and Connor Lade, Adams said: "A lot of people want to be the flashy player and they want to do this. The flashy players are the flashy players for a reason. They are good at things that not everyone is good at.

"That's a special special talent and that's like a small percentage of players in the world whereas if you are really good defensively then be the best defensively that you can be and then you will have a role in some way in some team."

He also told the Lade Out Podcast presented by Wawa: "Some coach will see you and be like ‘I need that player for his qualities’, they will realise, it's just a matter of time to realise. I'm not going to Man City tomorrow, that's not my game, that's not how I play.

"I am honest with myself and I know that. But who knows, I am not going to say teams right now. Don't try and change your game to something that you are not. I'll do the dirty work for you, I'll give the guys the ball in the position that they want that they are good at. I am not going to try and start dribbling people."

His words and simple breakdown of his game, as well as hints referring to potential moves away to a bigger side, comes at a positive time for the Blues as they seek to prepare themselves as well as possible for the return of domestic football.
