According to Marca, UEFA is close to withdrawing its threat to boycott FIFA competitions after Infantino withdrew his controversial proposal.
According to The Guardian, UEFA is preparing to withdraw its threat to boycott FIFA competitions after receiving assurances that Infantino will no longer pursue plans to sell FIFA World Cup broadcasting rights to private investors.
The UEFA Executive Committee will meet in Monaco on Thursday to discuss the matter. European football's governing body believes the situation has changed following Infantino's withdrawal of the initial proposal. UEFA has set two conditions: formal confirmation that the plan will not proceed and a guarantee that similar proposals will not be put forward in the future.
The decision follows FIFA's withdrawal of the controversial proposal in late July. The proposal had sparked fierce opposition from UEFA's 55 member associations, which had agreed to boycott FIFA competitions after details emerged the previous month.
UEFA is demanding not only a formal withdrawal of the proposal but also a commitment not to revive similar plans in the future: "This is not a failure for UEFA, but rather a demonstration of the sanity required to preserve a unique opportunity for young players. Our calls for action and reform will continue."
