Uefa's top referees chief has urged officials to use pitch-side monitors instead of relying on VAR for big decisions as the Premier League endured another huge day of controversy.
Roberto Rosetti wants to see his officials in the Champions League make the decisions and not 'a man in another place or city'.
The Italian also admitted VARs must improve on selecting which camera angles to review following the huge error at St James' Park when Fabian Schar's handball was missed in the build-up to his equaliser for Newcastle against Watford only for broadcasters to spot the mistake later.
Premier League referees are encouraged not to use the monitors in an attempt to avoid even more tedious delays although it has led to key incidents being missed such as Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans' lunging tackle on Callum Wilson.
'We think referees must be at the centre of the decision-making process - not the VAR,' Rosetti told the Mail on Sunday.
'I was a referee for 27 years. I want to be the person in charge of what happens on the field. That means I want to see what happened with my own eyes and then I can continue the match. I can explain to the players what has happened and I want to be at the centre of the decision. I want to see the referees take the decision.
'I understand we need to work to improve and reduce the time of reviews but the priority is for accuracy of decisions. I prefer a referee to watch the situation with his own eyes instead of by a man who we don't know where he is, maybe in another place or another city!'

no its not, what's tens mins each game to get the right call instead of arguing everyday all day about bad calls. half post game talks are about bad or wrongs calls seem like we waste more time discussing it.
No there is a flow 10 min between destroy the flow of the game . We can improve the current method to reduce the damage rather than use another rmethod

I love this. The referee should get to the screen to see what has happen in a good view, rather than someone else where telling him if it was a goal π₯ or not

Eliminating VAR is promoting corruption because referees are human with weaknesses but VAR keeps records and therefore evidence of what has happened. Many referees have made bias decisions against innocent teams in important competitions bringing the game to total disrepute. Allow VAR To Help in decision making for transparency. Take an example of ref. Mark Clattenburg with his decision against Chelsea's Fernando Torres and Jose Bosingwa after Ashley Cole and Dani Welbeck clearly diving over no faults leading leading to burning of the referee for eight matches. We don't need corruption any more.
VAR is not a machine that automatically spots errors in matches. Var is human beings watching the screens to spot errors in a game which the onfield referee may miss. It's therefore important that onfield referees should also take a look at the screen to view things for themselves and take decisions in conjunction with Var advice which they may reject if not convinced.

he didn't say we should eliminate var totally but rather referees should have the final say on decisions and not VAR just like its happening in England. therefore they should view the monitors on a major decision they are about to make?

The referees Shld go and watch the replay with their own eyes bcuz they r the ones who hv witnessed the act on the pitch and they will be the ones who can decide better. Hope this rule is implemented

There's a lot of sense in the man's saying πππ....... Uefa shud put these words into consideration.
yer I agree i hate been mad at a referee I can't see or hear why he making a bad call. way easier if the lead official on the pitch talked though the decision with a microphone and control his on reply TV with a extra var assistant referee on the pitch with the TV making the call.

VAR... its just a necessary evil... but referees should get more involved instead of just using the information from the room...
yes VAR should bring the attention to the ref but if call is to be changed it should only be changed by the lead match official we can see on pitch and he uses his on TV to male the call. #honesty the only policy

FIFA weird referee's should be able to check on field monitor every goal while players have there 2min celebrations is it that hard. just like cricket we take 2mins between each bowl why not constantly checking why do they have challenges. shouldn't all referees in all sports want to do this to ensure honesty. people spent BILLIONS of dollars betting on the results why do we leave it to chance.

Why Tennis has got a good VAR and does not take much time to review any mistake? We good decisions from referees by the help of the VAR system and should be handled effectively.
